Alright here we go:)
I recently started my membership here again, but this time really learn the guitar:) I have been playing the guitar time from time, but not really practice it, so i have missed alot of the basic stuff. Like rythm playing, some of the common chords. How to apply melodi over chords, and so on. The biggest issue i have is timing, timing, timing. But, I think the biggest problem there, lies with the lack of ability of rythm playing, and get the groove going:) But, i have a really hard time to really go back and learn the basics. So, i hope i will get good feedback. To get back there and starting to learn the fundamental of playing guitar:) I upload 2 short movies here, one of them i just play something. And the other one, is me trying to play Keith Scott style by Guido Bungenstock . I heard this one this weekend, so I learned alittle section today, love that style of playing:) The timing is alittle off, but i will get there:) Cheers!

Hi Stevens! Welcome to GMC!
I have to agree with Kris about your timing, it doesn't seem to be a problem when you are soloing over a backing track, but things are different when you have to play riffs and chords. I would like to help you to design your guitar plan for the next weeks based on your guitar goals and music taste. So before I go deeper with this I'd like to know a bit more about you. - Favorite guitarists, bands and musicians. - What are your guitar goals? - How would you like to you see yourself in 5 years (related to music and guitar)? - Do you have playing live experience? - Which are your strong and weak points with guitar? - What do you know about music theory? - Share here audios and videos that reflect your current playing. My favorite guitarist are Joe satriani and Steve vai. Especially, both their playing style and tone. Some other then them is. Daita, John petrucci, Jack thammarat, that i didn`t heard about that long ago. But, i really like his playing. And i like the way Syu play, just insane fast riffs and picking style. I can keep on going here, but thats some of them. I listen alot of old school. Iron maiden, Black sabbath, Metallica, Guns and roses, Acdc, Van halen... But in the end, if i hear something that i like. It doesen`t really matter if it`s rock or not. Sometimes i can just put on some classical tunes, orchestra and just relax. I love the project Steve vai did, when he played with an orchestra. But, what i want to do with the guitar. Is focusing on the tone, and play clean and smooth phrases. And really get vibrato and bending spot on. And really have control over it, i`m a real sucker for that things. I feel that is my main focus for now. Of course, i want to work on speed and be able to control my picking, and legato hand. Sweep picking and all that sweet stuff. And rythm:) But, i feel when it comes to alternate picking and such. I get exerscise from that thing now, when i have started to learn the major scale. When i have learned a pattern, i try to pick it with different speed on the metronome. Mainly 3 different speed. One slow, medium and fast then in the end i slow it down again. I try to do this with anything i practice lately. Before, i just picked up the guitar. And tried to play fast right away. And that shows today. So, there`re many of this small things i need to start over and do it right this time. And fix it:) I hope, within this 5 years. Being able to play in a band. If it`s only cover songs that plays, doesent`t really matter now. But, that thought can change with time:) Picking up the guitar for me, is a thing i wanted to do when i was younger that i regret i didn`t. But, i don`t hang over that. It`s never to late to learn the guitar and all about it. And i want to learn music theory asweel, both to get alittle more knowledge on how to compose music. With modes goes weel to with chords. And really know what notes there`re in the chords. I don`t know that much theory now. I do know, what notes there are on E and A string. 3 boxes of C major scale and what notes there are in that scale C D E F G A B. And that A is the 6th degree. So thats Aelion. I think the chords goes. C Dm Em F G Am Bdim. And I know that, major triad chords are made of 1, 3, 5 and minor 1, b3, 5 and sus chords are built from. Sus2:1, 2, 5 and sus4: 1, 4, 5. And 7th chords are, 1,3,5, b7. This is just something i have snapped up on the way. The hardest i think about theory is how to apply that knowledge to playing. And i can some of the minor pentatonic. And no, i have never played live. I sometimes jam with some friends of mine. My weak points are, rythm guitar. I think it`s fun to play rythm guitar, but when it comes to practicie. I tend to only practice lead after awhile. And, when i learn something i still want fast result. But, that is one thing i really trying fix and get my head back in what i`m doing. And, take it slow. Strong points. Thats a hard question. I think i haft to think alittle on that one. I send 2 audio files here. I have never learned a hole song, so i didn`t know what to record. So i played alittle from Crazy train, and Guido emotion ballad. Hard song to learn, but really like that playing. So, maybe i can have that as a long term goal to really learn. Hi Stevens! As you just shared an improvisation over the buckethead lesson I wanted to give you some feedback and things to work:
Your playing is consistent, I can notice that you have good timing and that you surely have a well trained ear because the notes choices fit good with the backing, there are not moments when your solo sounds bad or out of pitch. About the things that your improvisation is lacking I could say: - Direction. The phrases are not very related, you are not using the "call and response" concept, and the overall structure of your solo needs some work. Your phrases sound more like "exploring the scale" than "saying something." - More use of expressing elements: vibrato, bending, slides, double stops, harmonics, dynamics, etc. Next step: Learn the 5 shapes of Pentatonic major scale. I will surely take this feedback and start thinking on adding expression to my playing. It gonna take some time to get this two down, so i really get the scale down and at the same time the theory behind it. I must go through the minor pentatonic scale again later on.
