Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: In the style of Gary Moore - Ballad & Blues by Piotr Kaczor

Here's my take of Piotr's wonderful lesson in the style of Gary Moore. It's tougher than it looks and a great chance to work on vibrato and string bending. The toughest part for me was the 2nd half. Just getting the feel for the different time signature there was tricky. You have to get passionate about it when you're doing the repeated bends through there. I hope I was close to getting the feeling through those parts...

Man, this was a wonderful playing, almost perfect ! You're right about the second part, it is good for you if you know where you making mistakes ! It's true that the rhythm change and different filing (blues part in this case), leads to the metric oscillation, but this is not as bad as you think. A strong 9 ! wink.gif

Hey there amigo! I think that this is a very good take - you have a great tone (the PRS never lets anyone down biggrin.gif) and great articulation! Don't worry about the small mistakes, if you know where they are - you may work a bit more and get a flawless take if that's what you are aiming for!

Hi mate! This is not an easy lesson, as you said, feeling and expression is the most important thing here. I also noticed that the first part is better than the second one, it seems that you are not very comfortable with the rhythm change there, so phrasing, vibrato and bending aren't natural in that section. But this will be fixed with more practice, so keep on working hard!

Excellent take James !

It's hard to describe the type of feel needed for the second half. A lot of these blues licks don't have a strict timing to follow, it's all about the release of pent up kinetic energy.. letting loose in short, fiery bursts !!

The only way I could think to advise someone on this is to try and completely let go of the desire or need to control the timing. Really dig into the bends and feel them and when you have a short twiddly bit, try and make it seem more 'snappy'.. as if you'd held an elastic band and then just released it. I think that's what they must mean when they talk about tension and release. Although it's a metaphor it can really be interpreted in a physical way too. All those bends build up the tension and emotion and those short bursts of hammer ons and things like that are the release of the tension. You've got to let go and be prepared to push your fingers a bit faster than you think they can go smile.gif
