Hey i am new to this site, and have been playing for about 3 years and not a beginner but was wondering is there any specific steps of which lessons to take I am confused with were to start. can anyone help me thanks
Hello and welcome to GMC!
Where to start depends on your current level. Generally I would recommend check out these lesson series and focusing on certain technique/topic : http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/video-lessons/lesson-series/
You should for start browse the lessons archive and see which lessons seem fun and challenging enough for your (they all focus on certain technique/topics). Just think about what you want to improove and then type in the search engine : vibrato, alternate picking etc to find such lessons.
Cheers,
Bogdan
Well if you're looking to improve areas of your playing that are weak, there are specific lessons for that. For example, if your legato is weak, just enter "legato" in the search bar and numerous lessons will pop up. You gotta figure out what direction you want to take before you can chart your course. It is easier said than done, as I'm finding out
Todd here I'm an instructor here at GMC and I do Video Chat Lessons each Saturday at 2:00 PM, please do join us for a jam session. We work on a lot of Alternate Picking and lead techniques. I"m sure we can help you grow as a player. It's a great group that meets each week A lot of the same players but always cool new ones.
As for what to learn next, the guys are right, it's really up to you. Do you want to play Jazz? Blues? Metal? Slow and with Feeling? Fast and with Fury? Both? What kind of stuff are you in to?
Todd
Hey
Welcome to GMC.
You can use the search bar to look for specific lessons based on what skills you wanna improve
Welcome stratattack!
Welcome aboard man! Enjoy the site!
Welcome to GMC! Yes, try to use the search engine to find something for you
This is a great topic, actually, and I don't mean to hijack this thread, but this site really is layed out in a hodge-podge manner in terms of content. If you know what you're looking for, then it's fine because you can search for it, or generally be able to find it because it's either under "guitar lessons", "workshops" or knowledge base. But from the perspective of someone who is looking for guidance in what to study at their level, it's not exactly apparent what to search for or more importantly "where to start".
It would be nice if this site had a "road map" link in the main navigation bar that links to an area of the site dedidated to breaking people into a generic lesson plan as well as describe the REC plan and links to a set of "starter", "intermediate", advanced video lessons that can be submitted in the rec plan, or links to set of topic-based videos for improving a specific area of one's playing.
Stratattack, my suggestion would be to look over some of the guitar lessons in the guitar lessons section, find one that you like, and challenge yourself to learn it, then shoot video of yourself playing it and submit it to the http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showforum=152for grading. This will help you identify your own playing level - I would start with one that is below your comfort level so you can get an idea of whether where you think you are is really where you are, plus the added feedback you get from the video will be a good challeng and introduction to the instructors on the site.
I would also try to attend some video chat sessions - which you have to keep an eye open for in the forums, where the instructors leading those video chats announce the time. Todd has posted his already above, and it's a really good introdcution to the video chats in a pretty laxed environment with a real hands on experience, so I would encourage that.
Finally, I would post questions in this forum. There are a lot of great people on this site who are very knowlegeable and helpful, and downright great people. Be a part of the community, and you'll get up to speed on the different programs available to participate in.
Edit: Also, there is a F.A.Q. which can be found here:

REC Forum is located here:

Welcome!
Some of our members shared their lesson plans in the knowledge base, maybe some of them might suit you or give you idea as for where to start:

I also agree with SirJamsalot that taking part in REC program is always helpful!
Hi and welcome! Even if you don't concider yourself a beginner it's not a bad idea to restart from the top, you'll always pickup something new.
Welcome to GMC!
welcome!! Just type in whatever topic you are looking for and start working on lessons on that topic
Welcome aboard!
Probably a good way to start, if you need our assistance, is to open a topic, and let us know about your current level, or the things you would like to learn. There are so many lessons on GMC, so much material, something for everybody. So if you want some recommendations that you would like, it would be good to know what kind of music you like, what scales you use, and those sorts of things. We will gladly help
