My name is Tim and I suffer from AOGS - Adult Onset Guitar Syndrome.

I'm 46 and live in Denver, Colorado. I've always wanted to play guitar, but something else always came up. During a mid-life crisis moment, I decided that I was finally going to learn. I bought a cheap guitar and quickly swapped it out for a better cheap guitar (love the 30 day return policy). A week later and I was back trading up again. It was still a cheap one - Epi Les Paul Studio, but much nicer than the first two.

I was following some lessons on YouTube, checked out some other lesson sites and felt I had the basics okay, but was missing something. Even though I was picking up the guitar everyday, I wasn't feeling inspired like I thought I should. I finally decided it was the "beginner" guitar. I thought if I had something "pro" quality, I would be more enthused.

I'm more a fan of Carlos Santana (not the latin part, but the lyrical tone). My daughter really likes Orianthi. Both play PRS Guitars, so I decided to check them out. The first time I picked up an American-made PRS Custom 24, I knew this was the one for me. Every time I pick it up, I am excited about playing it and wanting to really be able to play it.

I stumbled across this site looking for some lessons to play Europa. The lessons where great, so I decided to check out the rest of them. I'm looking forward to working my way through the other lessons and doing the new guitar justice.

When I'm not working or practicing, I'm either running or snowboarding. I do live in Colorado after all.

Tim you are among friends smile.gif We all suffer a bit from the same thing! Some here have EOGS and others advanced cases of AOGS. I think I have some of both?

Sounds like you have a spiff axe and now GMC so get ready for massive progress in your playing. Jump in to the video chats if you can as they are part of what make GMC GREAT! I teach a saturday Video Chat every week @ 5PM EST so do stop by! smile.gif

Welcome to the site Tim!
That is a very cool instrument you got there and yes - it is very satisfying when you are learning on a quality instrument.
Cheap guitar are great too if they are setup properly, but I had a bad experience having one that is really not comfortable to play. It was really demotivating me.

See you around the forum.

Hey there! Welcome to GMC! I also own a PRS Cusotm 24 and a PRS Paul Allender model and ..yes, these are incredible instruments which can motivate you A LOT but, the main idea is, tone lies in the hands as well smile.gif a good guitar will help but you need to learn how to extract the tone by using a balanced combination between the hands and the guitar!

Let us know if you need any help with things around here! I am also having a video chat tonight so, please drop by if you would like to join - 8 o'clock, London time! smile.gif

see you mate

Cosmin
