hi guys,

Kris, Andrew and I have been discussing some additional guidelines for the SI boards, we want to maintain as high a standard as possible along with regular activity in this section and we have come up with these extra guidelines.

Please bear in mind that these are NOT rules, just guidelines, communicate with us any difficulties etc, most things can be flexible if we know in advance smile.gif

----------------------------
**Additional guidelines (added 12/06/2008)
A student Instructor will need to be adding lessons on a regular basis to keep the SI Badge on their profile, this is to maintain activity and quality on the boards, not to mention the respect from the community, these are guidelines only NOT rules and any difficulties/holidays etc which may mean that you are unable to maintain the levels set out below, can be communicated to myself or Andrew so that we are aware of your situation.

The quantity of lessons by Student Instuctors will be reviewed on a two monthly basis.

Three video lessons or five audio & written lessons will be the minimum requirements every two months for a Student Instructor to maintain his/her SI status in the community. As above we stress that these are not rules but simple guidelines to maintain solid activity on the SI boards, as mentioned above Student Instructors should communicate with either myself or Andrew Cockburn with any issues they may be having

--------------------------

I think the above is more than achievable and based a lot around my own personal activity on the SI Board.

any questions just ask

Chris smile.gif

Cool guidelines, definitely will boost up lesson producing. Also I think it is fair and equal for all to do the same amount of work! smile.gif

I think that the amout of lessons is too much, not everyone got the time, nor the ideas to make so many lessons, I think that a 1 video lesson or 2 audio/written lessons is a more fitting creteria.

I also think it is maybe too much 3 video lessons per month, I would say one per month is cool too smile.gif

One thing..

Why do you have to take away their SI badge..

Personally if you do that you might as well remove their lessons. They put them up for free for us and do deserve something in return.. Remeber.. its quality over quantity.. I don't think there should be such strict rules on SI instructors when some of the real instructors don't even up out 3 videos every couple months.

I also think that 3 video lessons every 2 months is quite a lot of work. Maybe , 1 video lesson every 2 months is enough just to keep the forum active and not pushing anyone on producing low quality lessons just to keep the badge.

I tend to agree with Tjchep. Most of the work we do for GMC community is simply because we love it wub.gif But when we do something which is not for money, that comes on our free time, which can be quite scarce...

ok, Gus & Zizi, your comments have been taken on board and we`re going to take another look at it, the concept to maintain the badge is going to remain.

How it is gained and maintained is going to be adjusted, as with most things until the idea is out there for everyone you dont always know exactly where to pitch it, some people are always going to be more active than others and either have more free time or are willing to give up more free time to do these things, so thanks for your input guys smile.gif

I think it's generally a great idea to keep the forum more active!
But as you say, some have more time than others etc. so it might need adjustments..

I believe I'll be able to do one lesson a month to begin with, and I'll take it from there smile.gif
Badge or no badge, I'm doing this because I like it and I'll be here whatever's decided smile.gif

thats the spirit Paal, really how I treat it, as I said earlier, I find that I`m spending the time practicing anyway, the lessons make me really focus on specific areas, and I think its both more benefical for me and also consructive smile.gif

It is actually making you focus on specific areas, which is a good thing, at least for me..
Plus I'm always coming up with some new material while trying to figure out what to do a lesson on, and that's a also a good thing smile.gif

That's pretty much true. One of the lessons I am working on will make me practice quite a while before recording it...

But then, editing the videos and so on may take you some time, when you are not that experienced and does not have appropriate software... I hope to take less time on that next time. rolleyes.gif

Excellent guidelines Smells - I especially like the part where you have to keep producing lessons to retain SI instructor badge - this will be of benefit to everybody as the SI lessons will keep coming more regularly and more people will want to keep an eye on the board. I also think this is only fair to the SI instructors as their hard work will get better exposure.

Keep up the great work! biggrin.gif

One more thing, I was wondering, a lesson takes a lot of space (~120-130 Mb) so even with a doubled space, we can't do more than 2 lessons (if we count also collaborations too ...)
