Alright, so I'm thinking about buying a 7 string guitar

Why?

Because Dream Theater and Rusty Cooley rock my face off :]

And the concept of a 7th low string really intrigues me

But I'm not quite sure which way to go as far as specifics are concerned

Any suggestions?

Ibanez S series 7-string is meant to be good with the Zero Resistance tremolo.

Schecter also do a large amount of 7 strings worth checking it, the stock pickups are better than the Ibanez and generally they cost less.

Depends if your wanting a tremolo or not. smile.gif

There's always the Ibanez Universe! It's the 7-string version of the JEM. I don't have much experience with 7-strings, I know the extra string is a low B, but besides that, I can't help much. Sorry!

All depends on your budget. If you got alot of cash go for Ibanez or Schecter. If your low on cash you can check out some other brands like Washburn. They make a 7 string for under $200.00 .You really just want to make sure that the guitar is made of quality wood and the neck is comfortable. Some guitars may just need pickup upgrades or replacment parts ,but still will save you some cash if needed. smile.gif

Thanks for the help guys!

My budget actually falls between $300 - $400 at the present time
If I have to upgrade pickups or parts, I'm willing to do so

And I'm not too picky about tremolo. It'd be a nice thing to have, but not necessary, as most of my influences dont really focus on a tremolo all that much.

And here's a washburn I was looking at, and after shredmandan's suggestion, I looked into it further. It does seem to be a bit cheap for a 7 string, but with a bit of upgrading it could turn out to be nice. What do you all think?

Thats actually a fairly decent guitar, Ive played it many times in stores and one of my friends own it. Its a good guitar if you just want a "Casual" 7 string, but if you want to take up a 7 string for serious use, i recommend this.

Ibanez RG7321
Best deal for your price range, Ibanez make the best guitars for the best deals, in my oppinion atleast wink.gif i wouldnt recommend getting a Floating bridge with a 7, then it makes it harder to change tunings. If you have a set bridge, like the ibanez above, you can mess around with some really cool tunings smile.gif
