Hey guys (and gals),

I couldn't really find the right words to display how I feel about but I might as well just get it off my chest. Guitar is becoming too liquidated and I feel that playing and being good at guitar is discouraging as there are so many better players that people compare me to. I will be cancel my membership here and find another hobby in the future. Hope you guys the best.

i feel exactly the same way you do right now, but quitting is not the answer. there will always be someone better than you, skill wise, but in my opinion, guitar is about self expression, and anyone who plays what feels right to them is a good guitarist.

Please dont quit! sad.gif

Also I would like to add - that you now have the chance to rise a level above many other guitarists with your skills. Many people do choose to quit - and if you don't, then it means you will go further thanks to your persistence.

This kind of thinking has helped me many times when I haven't felt like I was going to be anything! smile.gif

PS I hope this wan't and april joke as well unsure.gif

Most guys who call themselves "guitarists" really suck. I've heard them boast, and then I hear them play. Really, even those who've been playing the classical guitar for 5+ years.

Now, it's true that there are like billion good players out there. It's a crowded business. Why not go for something similar to guitar like banjo, mandolin, violin, bass, contrabass...? Those are greats instruments but aren't so crowded. Those will probably be more rewarding for you. And there's always a high demand for decent musicians with not-so-common instruments. You don't have to be Victor Wooten to get a gig with bass.

Kris is very right, the thing that keeps you going is the will to become a better player, to succed. Watch some goo players DVDs and take a break if you need to, but keep playing and you'll succeed! smile.gif

You're taking the mickey too, right?

Posted by: erik Apr 1 2008, 09:48 PM

Don't quit! A couple of years from now when you're a great guitarist you will be glad you didn't quit smile.gif

Dont do it!! as some body has said there will always be someone better than you at something, thats life. but what i have realised in life is that the more you persisit with something and the harder you work at all of a sudden you look around and realise that you are the someone better.
keep at and you will surprise your self in no time at all.

I'd like to comment this - as this seems to be a common argument for quitting. My personal belief is that this is completely wrong!

The more guitarists there are - the more likely you will be able to make a living out of being one!

* You will get more guitarist fans the more guitarists there are! (guitarists are more likely to be guitarist fans than non-guitarists)
* Other guitarists (which you currently think are going to compete with you) are actually going to turn mandolin fans into guitar fans thanks to their skills. Which means more business for you when it's your turn to rock the house! biggrin.gif

In fact, I would say that chances of making it as a guitarist are considerably higher than as a mandolinist..!

PS Sorry Sinoman I don't mean to dissagree with you, I am just trying to help you out in supporting Bulletproof! smile.gif

I hope you will reconcider, I can't think of a more giving hobby. Not everyone would feel the same of course but for me music in general is so rewarding.

Try new ways, new music, new approaches if you're stuck.
If you're a metal head, spending some time with Jazz for example could improve your metal playing skills. Try new styles.

Good luck, sure hope you will pickup playing already the 2'nd of April.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the inspiration to keep playing the guitar but I really had no intention on quitting the guitar or the site any time soon. Gotta love April fools smile.gif

Well, now you know I"m a prankster....you'll have to keep an eye out for me. By the way, Kris, you said that you hope it's not an April fools joke, but I hope you meant that you hope it is as there would be one less guitarist out there smile.gif

Till next time.
