Hey, I already posted this in the practice Room section, but I just realised that it actually belongs here:

Greetings GMC Folks,

I am looking forward to buying an Ibanez S570DXQM - BBB. Reason why I want this guitar is that I went to the Ibanez Rack where the Jems and other Guitars were hanging and not even looking at the Price, I took it directly to the testing room. I was amazed that such a thin Body had such sustain and the sound was just awesome (tried on a Hughes and Kettner Amp, think it's a 400$ Amp). Then I looked at the Price which was about like... 620$. I expected way more ohmy.gif . Well the moment I had it in my Hand it was just great , it plays well , it feels nice, the cutaway is awesome, i couldnt find anything that I could call bad on this Guitar (except that it is REALLY thin and sometimes feels kind of strange because it's so light weight) wink.gif

Well now to the Pickups cool.gif . The Stock Pickups aren't that great for some Styles of Music I play. For Example the Blues . They get kind of Fuzzy and somehow sound dirty and too fuzzed. I've tried playing on other Amps (always trying out new settings) but the same thing until I switch to other Guitars with "quality" Pickups. That's why I'd like to swap the infinity Pickups to a custom configuration [HSH system]. I talked with a cool guy at my local Music Store and read in the Forums, tried a few "live", and I really like DiMarzio Pickups. Ithought about an Evo 2 in Bridge Position, and a PAF Joe in Neck. Now I have no Idea what Pickup I would put in the middle, single coil format position. Anybody an Idea of what I can put in there? rolleyes.gif And then a more important question: Does Anyone own this Guitar and might want to warn me of some bad Features, because suprisingly I have only heard good things about the Guitar itself. dry.gif Has anybody got experience with changing Pickups on that Guitar?

Another Thing: I was thinking about scalloping the 21st - 24th fret. I like the accessbility when it's a bit easier to do clean bends and vibrato on those . Good Idea ? Bad Idea?

Well Forum , do your Magic, thank you in Advance laugh.gif

Post Scriptum: Excuse my English , I'm from Germany laugh.gif dry.gif

I own a S770PB.

I will start with the worst problems I can possibly find with mine. When I whammy my neck makes a click/creek sound. But if I take of my locking nuts it goes away so I'm thinking it deals with how mine tighten down, so may not be the guitar. With the body being so light and thin I have to wear a strap at all times sometimes it likes to slide when playing, depends on the material that my pants are made out of. Pickups suck so much! They just sound really bad, you can EQ around them and it helps but replacing the pickups will give it new life.

Obviously if thats the bad I found, that it has to be that crazy stupid choices then the guitar is top notch for me. I have traded in guitars that cost almost 4x the price because they can't compare to it.

As for pickups I know people that would say just toss in the Steve Vai set, its Evo in the bridge/neck and not sure about the middle pickup. It does sound good and can play anything. I actually don't use my middle pickup so its stock and I put in a set of BKP Blackhawks in it, I've fallen in love all over again with the guitar.

As Todd says, try every guitar they have that fits your specifications. Never rely on forums for advice on buying guitars because they depend SO MUCH on your own preference, I'm sorry if I seem rude, I just want to help smile.gif What worked for someone else might not work for you, or vice versa.

As for the pickups, I don't like any of the infinity pickups. Never did smile.gif Get the Steve Vai set. DiMarzio evo pickups are so versatile, I can't even describe. I want to buy some, but I can't at the moment, but I've tried them and I loved them smile.gif

Oh, and I love the feeling of scalloped 21st to 24th frets, my friends have them done on their axes smile.gif

Well, I haven't tried that many, but the ones I tried are the DP159, DP158 and DP156 (the Humbucker from hell) smile.gif

I never use the middle single coil pickup, but supposedly, the DiMarzio V2 middle pickups are good smile.gif

EDIT: I don't know much about the middle pickup so I can't get you any links :/ but the DP159, DP158 and DP156 are pretty common smile.gif

sounds like the pick-ups you are talking about have ceramic magnets(great for metal)
if you want something that will clean up a little more look into an alnico pup.
I heard a good suggestion, listen to the soundclips from the websites with a good pair of headphonnes

Good call! smile.gif It sounds like he played this one first and sorta fell in love smile.gif Makes sense to me, as LOVE a good IBBY!!! But do make sure to play them all before you settle on one. Start with every Ibanez they have. Cheap to crazy pricey. If you are not sold, keep trying other models til you find "the one".

Don't trust the first guitar you pickup, even if it's the one you end up with smile.gif Try em all. Buying a guitar is serious business as you are starting a relationship with a new instrument. You may have it the rest of your life. You may sell it next week. Be sure when you buy smile.gif

BTW: Infinity Pickups. Sadly, IBBY started saving a few bucks and quit having DIMARZIO make nice, pickups and started skimping a bit. The INF are not crap, just don't do the wood justice. The VAI set is a near perfect match IMHO, balanced, tonal, sweet. Good call on those smile.gif

P.S. SCALLOPING: Can be amazing smile.gif Can also RUIN your guitar. Before you put your new baby under the knife, maybe have the luthier try it on one of your lesser guitars or on a separate neck that you could swap in and out on the new guitar. That way you can return it to stock if you need to sell it smile.gif

He ran Evo 1 Brige/Neck with an Evo V2 Middle. Vai also used a PAF Pro which is an alnico magnet.

Another style would be the famous Crunch Lab / Liquifire. Which I owned in my EBMM, it handed any tone you wanted from it.

Yeah that's a great combination too, as I said , I play a lot of Styles (Including Metal) but in the Blues I really notice the lacks of the Picups, suprisingly they didn't sound that bad under heavy distortion, IF you play a decent amp.

Listen to every word Todd says, he saved my life when I was getting a brand new axe laugh.gif

And speaking of amps, try testing the guitars they have with an amp that is the most similar to the one you use (your practice amp, not your stack), because let's face it, a Marshall stack would make almost any guitar sound the greatest axe on Earth laugh.gif they tend to hide the guitars negative sides, so its best to try it on the same or similar practice amp that you got smile.gif

The old JEM I own, came with scalloped frets from the factory - I do enjoy them, but I personally do not find them as so important. You can very well bend without having them smile.gif But as I said, it is a matter of personal choice and TOdd's advice is very good - don't go cuttin unless you know it'll end up as a great job. Test first, as he suggested. Regarding the single coil pickup - why not try this one:

http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/strat/hum-.../cruiser-bridge

If it does the job for one with a tone so warm as Andy's, it's gotta work biggrin.gif

Anytime Steve! I am a HUGE Timmons fan and I am glad I could provide help and it was so easy for you to decide. Usually when we are hit by something, it's not difficult at all to say - that's what I like, but it would be great if you could at least try a guitar that has the Cruiser on already and see how it feels in YOUR hands, ok? smile.gif That, before actually buying it smile.gif
