Hey guys, here's one very interesting plugin from Waves. It seems they've started to emulate a lot of vintage gear that gives warmth to your tracks or overall mixes. GUI looks very nice! smile.gif

Tube Analog Bliss

Breathe tubular analog life into your DAW tracks with the Waves MPX Master Tape plug-in. Developed in association with Eddie Kramer and modeled on an Ampex 350 with 351 electronics, MPX Master Tape gives you warmth, sweetness, and lucidity - without a trace of muddiness. Treat your entire mix - or just individual elements to offset the oftentimes harsh, clinical quality of digital. Take the digital edge off synthesizers or sampled instruments, or jack up the drive level to get tape saturation's punchy brand of compression. With Waves MPX Master Tape in your toolbox, you have the best of analog and digital at your fingertips. It's a wonderful time to be alive and recording!

Waves MPX Master Tape Plug-in Features at a Glance:

Modeled on the Ampex 350/351 reel-to-reel
Adjustable tape speed, bias, flux, wow & flutter
Slap & feedback delay
Up to 24bit 96kHz resolution
Mono and Stereo components
Supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU
Mac/PC compatible

These plugins are a great way to make your home recording sound much better. Most in this class are a bit pricey for students in many cases, which leads us to.....

NOW THE FREE STUFF!

So what if you are looking for Warming up your tracks and your budget is ZERO? You are in luck! smile.gif Here is a link to something will get you started with putting a spiff "analogue tube emulation" in to your mix without costing you anything. It's not a "Tape Emulator", but a "Tube Emulator" so it's track warmer that adds some "Tubey"ness without using any actual tubes wink.gif It's called

VOXENGO TUBE AMP

Thanks smile.gif Yeah, gotta love VOXENGO! And you can't beat the price! I've used this Free Warming Tube plugin on individual tracks and on entire mixes during mastering with great results. There is a preset called Max Warming and Max Volume, so minimal effort for those new to it. Just install, hit the preset and bingo! smile.gif

Thanks for this post once again Todd. I think it will be very interesting to check it out.

While we're on the topic, Waves has one very interesting exciter plugin that could find it's place on the master bus of a software-based production system. It's a very decent plugin based on one of the rare tube-powered exciters. There is demo version available as for all Waves plugs for testing it out.

Waves Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter

Modeled on one of only a few tube-powered units ever made, the new Waves Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter® plugin delivers all the unique character of the rare original hardware unit, with all the advantages of software.

When it was originally introduced in the mid-1970s, the Aphex Aural Exciter brought its distinctive sound to select sessions by leading recording artists, traveling from studio to studio as an exclusive (and expensive) rental unit.

A true groundbreaker, the original Aural Exciter was highly regarded for its ability to increase and enhance presence, brightness, and vibrancy on vocal and instrumental tracks alike. It was even credited as a "session player" on best-selling albums by the likes of Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, engineered by Val Garay, who worked closely with us on the development of the plugin.

Features

Faithful model of the rare tube-powered original
Adds brightness, vibrancy and depth
Increases presence without raising levels
Perfect for vocal and instrumental tracks alike
Mix and AX modes for insert or send configurations
Mono and stereo components
Up to 24bit/192kHz resolution
Supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU
PC and Mac compatible

Controls

MODE selects the processing mode: MIX1, MIX2, AX.
METER selects VU meter view options.
INPUT controls input gain.
AX MIX controls the amount of AX (aural excitement)
added to the original signal.
OUTPUT controls output gain.
MAINS controls analog characteristics caused by hum,
based on the power supplies of the original units.
NOISE controls the level of the modeled analog noise.
