Hi guys, i'm in the market for a new amp at the moment. I think it's finally time i got myself something serious. My main style of music is metal, i don't really play any other styles seriously, so i don't need something that's gonna be good at everything, i just need something that's gonna rock.

i tried out a 6505 at a local shop and i really liked it, the clean channel really wasn't too great, but that's not really a huge concern for me (although a good clean sound would be a nice bonus). I'm also interested in the engl fireball. These are the main 2 i am considering at the moment. I was just wondering if there were any other amps i should be taking into consideration. I've heard good things about VHT's for example.

With regards to a cabinet, i'm not really too sure what to go for, but i've been offered a good deal on an engl standard 4x12 with v60s. I've been offered it with a spider valve 100 watt head for £550. the cab itself sells for around the £500 mark so it seems a pretty good deal. I'm not really interested in the spider valve, but it's pretty much free with the cab, so i can keep it as a spare or sell it or something. the only thing is the main reason i am considering the cab is because of the deal i'm getting. do you guys think this is a good cabinet or could i get something better?

i don't mind paying a bit extra for better stuff, so if i thought it was really worth it i would save up and eventually get something like a dual rectifier, but if it's not a huge difference i would rather go for the cheaper peavey or engl.

Anyway some opinions would be much appreciated guys.

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Luciana, i have decided to start practicing my singing because I have been unable to find a vocalist to work with on my solo project so I would maybe like to try using my own vocals.

The problem is i am a pretty bad singer and I don't really know where to start to start improving. I think I can normally hit notes ok, but I just feel my voice doesn't sound very good.

Could you maybe give me some tips on where to start to improve and maybe point me to one of your lessons that would be a good starting point.

thanks very much,
Andy

Hi Muris, here is a video of me attempting to play the first section of your Alternate Workout lesson.

It would be great if you could watch it and maybe give me some tips on how i could improve and get my playing a bit more fluid and even, and maybe increase my speed a little.

thanks,
Andy

Hi everyone. First of all I'd just like to say this is the best guitar instructional site i have ever seen! I don't normally sign up to sites online, but when i found this place i had a browse around and signed up right away.

A bit about me. My name is Andy, I'm 22 years old, live in Scotland and I'm a high voltage electrical engineer. I've been playing guitar for around 9 years now. I love guitar, but i feel it is something i really have to work hard towards to make any sort of improvements. i have also been playing drums for around 7 years and i found that drums came very naturally to me. I found that without having to put in nearly as much work to drums i got pretty good in a short period of time. because of this I always thought of myself more as a drummer and i have played drums in a lot of bands. I have realised though that guitar is really what i want to be doing though and i have started putting a lot more time into it, trying to improve. I am hoping with the help of this site i can put in the work and become the guitarist i have always wanted to be.

I listen to and play mostly metal music. my favourite bands are lamb of god, meshuggah, pantera, decapitated, necrophagist, lost horizon etc. i also like a lot of rock and more chilled out stuff, it just depends what sort of mood I'm in really.

So anyway, great job on the site and i look forward to improving on guitar and learning from all you guys.

thanks,
Andy

Thanks for your response! Though I don't think I'll get a singing teacher in my town. :( But I think I'll find a solution. :) So again thanks!

I have got one question though ;) :
You once said that you think your voice isn't "special", but you wanted to make it sound better. Did you manage it, and if you did, how did you do it?
Thanks in advance!
