Welcome!
Keep working on the songs you like, but also as you go try to learn some theory.
Anytime you encounter a new scale, or new chord, try to understand why it works and how.

Learn some scales too, starting with the minor pentatonic in all 5 positions is a must.
Then move on to the modes...

Even though not metal, http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/lick-construction-class-beginners/ has the 5 pentatonic positions...

3 basic steps to develop techniques, speed, precision in the notes and concentration!

1) be Patient! The patience is very important, because, Sometimes, we worry in learning and developing techniques and develop them in an incorrect way!

2) The use of the metronome (click) was facilitating the things to you! It is a good tool to develop speed and precision in the notes! The guitar pro is a good tool too!

3) relax your hands after every exercise! It is very important that you take care of your hands and your fingers!

Remembers that " Nothing is impossible "! Welcome and God bless you! wink.gif
