Hi all

My new Ibanez RG2570 just arrived and it's so sweet

It has a locking nut and floating bridge, but I forgot that when I tyook it out of the case and checked if it was in tune, so I went and tried to slightly tune the high E string using the tuning pegs.. and of course nothing happened... then I realized I wasn't supposed to touch the tuning peg, but the micro-tuner things at the bridge!

Question is, have I screwed something turning the "normal" tuning peg a bit?
I now notice that the "micro tuning" bridge wheel on that string needed a couple turns, and is at a different hight than the rest, it went down like a milimeter or so.

I'm sure this is a pretty stupid question but truth is this bridge is misterious to me
I'm taking it to the shop on monday to have a good set-up anyways

Your fine the floyd rose style bridge has a bit of a learning curve but you'll get used to it in no time. don't be afraid to unlock the nut near the headstock and tune from there if it gets way out of tune or somthing. its setup pretty decently from the factory so it shouldn't be too hard to teach yourself how to tune it with the floating bridge it just takes practice.

PS: I LOVE my RG2570 its my #1 guitar and will be for a long time to come. what color did you get??

Good move!

Probably you didn't ruin anything below the locking nut. Might have wekened the string between the nut and the pug though.

The fine tuning wheel, well... I don't know exactly how yoru bridge looks like exactly but anyway, that wheen sits in contact through a peg that runs into the slede. The sleds themselves are of different height where the middle mones are tallest and get lower further towards the E's
The peg connecting the wheel and the slede can jump out of position if the slede lies in it's most forward position, at least that has happened to me. What happens then is that the turning wheel is rendered useless.

If I were you I'd lose the locking nut and see what happens with the string you oooopsed.

I have two guitars with double locking but I ditched the locking nut on both. With good enough machine heads I don't think I need it. Also, I never use the whammy bar anyway so I guess that helps keeping it in tune ithout the locking nut.

Thanks guys that did the trick!

One more thing: how much should I tighten the locking nut? It was pretty loose from factory. Am I supposed to NOT apply too much force? I'm afraif I might snap a string or something!



It's blue with a maple neck, looks even better than the picture

It has to be tight enough to hold the string and no more than that Fran!

Tighten the screw down until you just feel it 'bite'; and then give it about a 1/4 turn more!
You'll soon get to know the feel of how hard to tighten it!

Thanks Jones. I have so much to learn about floating bridges that I'm a bit scared , I'll see if the guys at the shop can give me a fast training course on monday

Just one thing, what's the correct angle for an Edge-Zero bridge?
I see the diagrams at the link above, but Edge-Zero isn't there. Would it look like an Edge III, or like an Edge Pro? It looks like an Edge Pro kind of angle to me. I mean the metal seems to go parallel to the body but the micro-tuning wheels stand out above the guitar body.

Nice axe man!!.. I have been through this and still learning. Thanks for posting the links. Since there are locks, tuning pegs won't change the tune.. but make sure you are not tight on the tuning pegs.. other wise when you bend or use tremolo, the string breaks.. That happened to me once.

I'll keep that in mind, I'd hate to break strings cause I use elixirs and I don't want to go broke
