Great Page and Cover desing Lian! The mix is a bit weak but that might just be the MySpace audio quality...
Sounds a lot like the Band Turisas!

thank you Zakk! yes, I noticed them a bit weak too, but there's nothing I can do. 'cause myspace let you upload files max 6mg, and since our songs are quite long they are heavy. one mp3 at 320 it's around 15 mg LOL...
great you like the cover and the layuot smile.gif
and yes, Turisas is one of the bands that always related us with, I think it's cool for us to be compared with a great band like Turisas.
thanks for listening man!

A possible issue/cause is the compression that myspace etc use in their file encoder along with that in mp3 encoding and in those cases, rather like radio broadcast, it can help to take these in to account in the mastering. To put it another way this secondary compression can make audio that is already compressed/limited sound thin. Often what you need to do is master a separate take with little or compression and preferably no limiting. If you need volume in these cases then you need to look at how you gain stage and set up the eq. Often what you will need to do is to look at attenuating the bass, particularly sub-bass area, and adding gain to the mid/high mid band: this will result in an increase in perceived loudness due to the Fletcher-Munson curve. Also look at parallel compressing on the 2 bus along with 2 stage serial limiting (ie mild limiting of @2 db run into a 2nd limiter again for @2dB rather than trying to get 4dB gain in a single stage). If you can also add some soft clipping at the ADC when you set the gainstage -don't use hard clipping however.

Also meant to add that for mp3 you need a much lower peak dBFS than for wave. You may need to experiment a little but usually it needs to be about -1 to -0.5 dBFS as opposed to -.3 to -.1 dBFS for a wave. MP3 encoding is poor on the summing and tends to add gain which too often results in an overshoot and can also result in intersample overs if the original uncompressed audio peak was close to the line. In the first case you'll get a thin compressed sound and in the second you also add high frequency noise distortion.

yeah, I know that app... we are not sure about to upload songs in there tho. everybody can visit a myspace page and listen to the music but on the other hand, on FB you must to be logged in to access to our page.
that's our case, in yours, even I listen to your song on FB LOL! and it sounds awesome!

we are preparing the songs for tunecore, so these songs we'll be available on itunes and amazon soon.
here we have to upload .waw files... but then, you download an mp3.
are they doing something like what you said with our .waws files?

NP Lian.

I've no direct experience of Tunecore but I'd assume that what they're doing is adding any necessary metadata (ISRC and bar code) for Amazon/itunes and format shifting the wave to mp3 for Amazon or in the case of itunes just uploading and letting itunes format shift to AAC. They might also put the relevant details on Gracenote for you.

I don't think Tunecore do any mastering/re-mastering of the audio at all though so you would need to do any necessary processing before you send it to them. Not 100% certain though...

Posted by: Lian Gerbino Jul 15 2010, 08:36 PM

thank you so much man! I was thinking of the same way... we'll see how this wavs are changed to mp3 and there we'll see what to do next.

Posted by: tonymiro Jul 15 2010, 08:53 PM

Just been looking around Lian.

From what I can find Tunecore don't master themselves but if your audio needs mastering/re-mastering then they point you at a particular mastering company (Universal) whom you would presumably have to deal with and pay separately.

For a format shift - wave to mp3 - it doesn't look like they'll do any mastering routinely then unless you asked and paid for it.

Epic ! I love that kind of metal which is mixing styles like Korpiklaani, Ensiferum and awesome Keyboard too !

Extrem metal isn't my cup of tea but I like those growlings =)
