amazing!!!
In this seven-minute film, Pat Metheny walks viewers through the Orchestrion experience, explaining its origins and performing music from the adventurous solo recording that pairs the composer-guitarist with a phalanx of remarkable, custom-made instruments, played via solenoid switches and pneumatics.
Wou Chowy! I hadn't seen this before! This is so awesome. It seems that he is a bit tired of his sesionist musicians... Thanks a lot for sharing!
It's awesome!! Btw. I posted it here several months ago, but well worth seeing again! The album is recently released btw.

Incredible!
Oh, I missed your post Staffy
Thank you both for sharing this video, I love Metheny
I imagine he does this with MIDI?
Metheny is no longer a player, he doesn't want to pay other players.
Yeah, he is becoming self-sufficient!
Amazing!
very impressive. This guy is a wizard.
It's a fantastic project and music is always beautiful.
I don't know how he managed to make this, but it is impressive, and looks like magic. He's a genius no doubt
This is incredible .... I don't know how he can manage all this but it is astonishing
There's a nice article on the development and production of Orchestrion in the April 2010 issue of Sound on Sound. Some of which confirms Staffay's points about whether its midi or not and who was involved (Synclavier and Lemur amongst others.)
OT - Metheny's been involved with Synclavier from New England Digital for as long as I remember. As Staffay says the Synclavier is/was truly one of the big monster synths and was used a lot many big hit records in the 80s and 90s. It used to cost more than a house to buy - about 250,000USD back in the early 80s.
