I just nearly s*** myself lol. Quite a big earthquake just happened here in Nottingham and I've not experienced one before. My floor and walls were shaking quite a bit. Nothing on earthquakes in other countries but very scary. Not big enough to damage house or things inside house.

Has anyone else experienced an Earthquake or other Natural Disaster?

That's why I was scared to death. Didn't know what it was. We don't get big ones here but sometimes small ones occur that shake buildings. Never does much damage though.

We had some major ones here in Serbia..And we have them from time to time..I remember one that lasted for few minutes and was very strong..The building was all over the place and I was sleeping (it was during night and I woke up)..It was very scary because it seemed like forever..Made the half of city blackout from it..They scare me because you never know and its such a strong force..And I'm on 3rd floor of apartment building so no escaping for me I feel so small and helpless when they occur..

Well i've gone through about 200 hurricanes, (i live in florida).

Sometimes it gets horrible, trees ripped out, windows shattered, no power for weeks, (and we all know Katrina), But when the Hurricanes arent doing massive damage, i actually quite love stormy weather.

Wow an earthquake must be quite an experience! or a hurricane...

I'm glad they don't occur here in Finland... We used to have couple of blizzards for every winter here, the blizzards bring usually waist high snow in one day, Cars and buses and trucks get stuck every minute, some trees fall down and usually the power goes down sometimes for even days... And of course you freeze your a** off if your outside, but since it would seem even Finnish winters are turning to sissy-winters so they don't really occur that much anymore.

But I'm glad heres nothing that can rip your house apart!

I've experienced minor earthquakes, nothing serious, but very unpleasant. THen you realize the true power behind those shakes, when the whole building and everything around it starts to shake!

One time an earthquake. Me and my wife were in Manila for vacation and we had gone to bed. She was sleeping I was still awake when I felt like as if the bed was shaking. Looked at my side but she was still. Bed was still shaking then stopped, a few seconds went by and then all hell broke loose. She's from there and used to it like millions of others all arounf the world but it was big news to me. Quite a shocking experience.
Things falling over and we were mid up in the building so I could feel it slowly swinging from one side to another. Crawl under a table or stand in a doorway, yeah right.

we had an earthquake here in Atlanta my junior year of college, which was a total freak anomaly considering we're nowhere near a fault line. It was a 3.6 on the Richter scale, which is somewhat serious. The only reason I know it (I didn't wake up) was because I was taking an Earth and Atmospheric science class and there was a test the next day. The bonus question asked what our earthquake was last night, I didn't even know we had one and asked the professor about it the next day. He filled me in .

We felt that here. Was bloody weird, the window frames were shaking like crazy.

I don't think you can even call them winter anymore mate , at least not the one we are having now, it sucks, I miss a good snowy day, with a beautiful sunshine or the beutiful evenings when the snow slowly falls to the ground and the trees are covered with snow kind of poety don't you think

I hear you m8! Poetry is a good word describe, I mean near my house theres this passage way to another part of town, its kinda one car wide and it has a lot big trees, which branches hang low... so on evenings when it has just snowed a lot and all that those branches and the ground is covered with untouched snow and the street light not too far away shines a little of that orange glow on them plus its still snowing gently.... wow... Thats one of the most beautiful things you can see in this world

But unfortunately it doesn't happen anymore... I just hope we could have even just one more good old fashioned winter next year, for the old times sake...

I didn't feel a thing I was fast asleep in bed, only found out this morning on the radio!!

The last tremor I felt was the ones in Manchester about 4-5 yrs ago. Gave the building I work in a good shake and being a structural engineer things tend to go through your mind.

We get a few most years over here, usually centered off the coast of Cadiz and usually 4-6 grados. The last one did some minor structural damage to some houses near ours.

Worst bit of weather news here imo though was caused by a big tormenta that hit our village late 2006. It was severe enough that a 100 tonne (one hundred tonne) rock dislodged from the surrounding mountains and only just missed demolishing a large part of the village. A very large, and very expensive, fence has since been put up to keep 'unwanted rocks out' .

lol it was practically nothing IMO im near manchester area, and i have actually experience quite a bad earthquake when i was younger, i was in Taiwan in 21st of september a couple of years back when there was a chain of big earth quakes i heard lots of peopll got hurt, luckyly none of my relatives etc got hurt physically, but our properties were all damaged and all. i remember living on this construction site, it was just starting being built, so all they did was lay down the cement, which made a big piece of flat cemented land (conveniently!) where lots of local people stayed until they can arrange to stay somewhere where the earthquake didnt effect as much or somewhere good in general i guess =/, i was lucky because my mum knew lots of people so we got back to a reasonably normal living conditions after like a week or so... i could go on for a long time but i wont, but you get the idea.

Back in early 2001 I was woken up by an earthquake. I was working evenings and I had just graduated highschool the previous year so I was not happy about being woken up early. It was like 11 am! Sheesh. Why can't the earth shake a little later in the day? lol. Seriously though I am on Vancouver Island and we are apparently overdue for a shattering earthquake. I have a nice earthquake kit prepared.

I used to live in the Philippines and had my share of earthquake and typhoon experiences. One time, I got the chance to experience a volcanic eruption, a typhoon and earthquakes all at the same time. That's when I decided to move.

in my country in Czech rep i'm was leave in area where is lot of mine coal..i'm also work 1 year over there
1 day i'm seat home and our bulding like move for 2 second but at the time the 2 second looks realy like long time
probbaly what happen was little eartquake what was made from mine where probbaly big piece of coal just droop down

thats was so real{the 2 second} and i'm can't imagine the real eartquke with big power for longer time

we had it here twice befor a week first it was 4.3 and the second 5.4 i was sitting and i felt that the building is swinging .but thanks for God nothing happened .

I lived through Hurricane Katrina. My town was flattened and is still in very bad shape. My home was damaged but we did not lose it. Many of my friends and coworkers lost absolutely everything. Two of the buildings I worked at were destroyed. I may post some pictures. Two and a half years later I still can't believe my eyes. Mother nature is one bad mamba jamba.
