Hi Carlos!! Welcome to your Gab's Army thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not realy just kidding... )

Hi Gabriel!

My name is Carlos and I am from Spain. I have been "playing" guitar for 4 years, but in this time were periods of time where I didn't play for weeks. My main problem I think it's I am a theory-freak: If I don't understand what I'm playing (what scale over what chord progression I am playing, why this chord that it's not from the actual key fits in the progression...) I don't play it because I feel like I am cheating, and playing that piece won't make me learn anything new.

It's been this way since a couple of years, and that has totally killed the fun in the guitar, and that's why I pick the guitar just to play a little chord progression or to improvise on a backing track for a few minutes and then I drop the guitar.

I've been feeling this way for a long time, and when a friend of mine showed me this page I thought: "This seems funny!", and that's why I am here, to try to have fun again with the guitar.

Musical tastes: Well, I don't have specific genres. I like Ska-Punk, Metal (from Rammstein or SOAD to Rhapsody, Dio, Disturbed, Metallica...), Rock (Weezer, AC/DC), Rock'nRoll (Stray Cats)...

Strengths: The only thing I would highlight is my ear: I am very talented for knowing when something doesn't sound good. Apart from that, as I said before, I am very concerned with the relation of the theory with what I am playing. Bar Chords are also relatively easy for me.

Weaknesses: The main weaknesses are related to technique: my hammer's and pull's are very weak, my alternate picking is slow, my rhythm-patterns when playing chords really suck (I always do the same rhytmic pattern, really boring), and I find very difficult to do alternate picking on power chords (metal rhythms).

The next days I will record myself and post here the videos so you can see my poor technique and my ideas also.

Thanks for the mentoring Gabriel, it's interesting to stop one moment and think about yourself as a guitarrist!

Hi mate! Nice introduction! I like your way of seeing music and guitar playing. It's 100% positive to know the theory behind everything that you learn or play. I trust too much on my ear and sometimes I just follow it instead of analyzing to much what I create. I don't think that one method is better than the other because in the end, the main goal is creating music. smile.gif

I would like to see you playing to start working on your playing... I'll wait for the videos!

Welcome to the Army!

These are two improvisations (just music, no video).

In both you can see I don't "run" (because I can't, my fingers don't allow me)

This one sounds great the first 30secs or so... after that it sucks

This one is not really improvised: I played until I got some ideas, and then I recorded myself.

My ideal goal is to sound not only faster but more agressive, I am very bored of the pentatonic scale because I feel I'm always playing the same things.

Hi mate, we have to do a double job. We ave to work on training but we also have to work on musical solos to start adding more licks to your guitar vocabulary. There are a lot of things that you can do only using the pentatonic scale.

Technique:

This one for your right hand and for timing work:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/

and this one for your left hand and also timing work.

Musical Job:

For this I would like you to choose a lesson from the archive that is musical, and includes some guitar melodies and rhythm. You can choose from my archive or from any other instructor that you like. wink.gif
