Adding Drums To Own Composition, please help |

Recently I've been creating some material of my own.
One of the songs is kind of folk rock. I know exactly how I'd like the rhythm to be, because I am strumming at acoustic guitar. But I need to add drums so that we have a complete song. I've tried using some addictive drums preset and even mixing them but it doesn't sound right. It sounds like made by someone who has no clue about drums (well that's true  )Should I try to program myself the rhythm? If so, in which software? Or should I just understand a little bit more about drums and stick to presets? I want it to sound good so that my band record a couple of demos and open a myspace page. When i create drum tracks i use guitar pro to make them and the i use ezdrummer in fruity loop to change the midi sound to real drumsound

I agree; EZdrummer is the best (and one of the easiest) drummer programs I've tried.. Ever!

This exactly what I do. You should understand how a drummer would play it and then you can recreate it with midi notes. Every better recording software has a MIDI editor (Cubase, Sonar, Logic etc...). You can draw notes or even better (drum hits) in that editor and quantize them the way you need. All you have to do is to apply the right drum sample and start programing. You can get the drum sound from any drum plugin (depends which one you like). Addictive Drums is also a good one. Pick some good drumkit and assign it to what you programmed. I agree with Emir. I write everything in Cakewalk event by event in the Stuff and then when I have the drums written I add some samples and VST instruments.

You can use Ezdrummer od addictive drums for drum sounds..Now if you know how the drums should sound I would suggest opening a midi drum track in your recording software and "drawing" your drum line in there..At first it will seem hard to do but you will get used to it and once you make a groove you can copy-paste it.You will get a table in there which represents time/beats so its kinda fun to construct a drum line

Try to find some premade MIDI grooves on the web, there are literally tons of them. Then import then into your project, and assign your drum VST to MIDI tracks. Then you can change it to your liking.

Gus... You can use EZDrummer and expansions like claustrophobic, drumkit from hell etc.
Drag the midi files to an editor like protools... than edit this midi fills thinking as a drummer... BFD is also a good program drumkit and it´s more realistic than EZDrummer. I did a song writting the midi passing through BFD ... bass and guitar were plugged into line 6 RTAS ( toneport )
