Using my favorite open string technique, this guy adds some "Chicken Picking" to it and it comes out sounding pretty darn cool! For folks who have done quick licks, some of the pull off to open string bits here will feel familiar. The chicken picking is a new thing for me but I can see how it can be very useful!
QUESTION: WHO USES CHICKEN PICKING AND DO YOU USE IT WITH PULL OFFS TO OPEN STRINGS?
Yes!
I really like chicken picking and all the country staff!
thanks Todd for the share.
Sure thing! Our own KRiS DAHL uses this very same technique quite often. I"m still very new to it.
Yes, I am a big fan of doing something with the right hand fingers and not jsut let them hang there and I can’t think of better use, this technique sounds amazing and allows for some really cool licks
Sure thing It's a tricky style to master but sounds great in a variety of music. From country to rock to jazz, it always adds something cool!
Thanks for bringing that video up Todd. You are correct that I use it all over the place here - and generally I tend to gravitate towards this technique whenever I want need to play fast when improvising. With hybrid picking I tend to not miss the strings very often when improvising more intricate picking patterns.
It's an impressive technique to be sure. I have tried it with little success. I still need a lot more practice at it. It's very cool to see and hear it done.
