Okay, so when I trancribe any song, I split the tracks using software such as audacity to listen to the backing and the lead using the untouched version. Everything is going fine until I clearly heard a chord that doesnt seem to be possible as the song gives away multiple hints that the song is in drop C also already knowing my favorite bands always plays in Drop C too.

Basically long story short, the song I am transcribing, is titled "Lorelei" by a band named Deluhi. I know they always play in Drop C and the song has open Cs as a pedal point, but during one riff, the chord sounds lower then C? I am positive it is in drop C and if anyone wants to hear for themselves search for the song and at 1:45, you can hear what im talking about in the backing.

Its frustrating because I know If I change tunings just to get the one chord thats basically used behind the solos of the song, the rest of the song would become impossible to play.

Any help as to whats going on? Do bands record in different tunings just for certain parts?

I can;t figure it out at this hour, but it's possible that bands may record a certain sound or track in another tuning, why not I'll listen to it again tomorrow. In the mean time can you provide that backing you extracted? If we get to listen to it we may understand better

You never know how bands actually recorded the song, in the studio many things are allowed If they liked the pedal note, they could just overdubbed one Cb from a detuned string, or keyboard, or violin, or (because technology allowes it), even dog barking, and recreated in melodyne. In studio, possibilites are endless.

Hmm, it still sounds like C to me. From 0:22 onwards it sounds like a sequence of C and C#. I compared it with my collab High Risk (on the front page) which is in B and this track sounds a semitone higher than that, which would be C.

Mate, I listened to it and I also gave it to a friend of mine who has perfect pitch, but neither of us observed anything suspicious.

You sure, let me make sure I gave you the right time of the song. I slow it down using transcribe and can't hit the lower tone that apperas in drop C without detuning it a little more.


Its at 1:45 in both tracks I sent you, it alternates between 3 chords before it pauses.

To my ears, it seems like the are using another scale from that point on, and not a different tuning.

Yes, the link that is provided in the first post deals with C minor, and then @0.22 it goes into C# riff, and uses C Phrygian-dominant mode (F harmonic minor). I would generate the pattern for you if you give me your tuning.

I have already trancribed the solos, I mean't the backing for that part, I guess since its just a preview it makes it a little more difficult to explain. I'll send you the mp3's if you provide me with a email. and I'll be extra specific.
