Been a long time since I covered a song, as I mostly try to write my own songs, but last night I decided to learn and record this one:

Here's the no-vocals-yet version, as-it's slightly out of my range. Or close to at least.

It's amazing how much better your production sounds than the original. Everything about it. I know it's an older song, but you are working out of your home studio and i"m guessing they were working with a producer in a facility. Despite that, everything about yours sounds just way better. Super congrats. Your skills as a producer have gotten really impressive!!!

Thanks, Todd! I still need to try and do vocals, but as said, they're slightly out of my range - by half a tone or so.

I think you could sing it if you wanted to! You've got a great voice.

It's difficult to not make it sound strained when trying to hit notes just outside of one's range though. laugh.gif

True, one can always have the band tune down a half step. Many bands do this to make it a pinch easier on the singer. It's also easier on the guitar players as it reduces tension on the strings smile.gif

This is already tuned down half a step - so I'd be down a hole step, which is doable too of course, but I think if I work on my range and vocals a bit it might be doable.

And what if you go into distortion for the notes that are out of your range? That can sound really cool as well!

I've always struggled with distortion on higher range notes. That said I'm just pretending to have proper technique, or not even that, I acknowledge that I don't know anything about proper singing technique smile.gif

I think you could do it smile.gif As you say a whole step is workable too. If you've ever played with guitar down a whole step, it makes bends quite a bit easier, though I did have to put 9's back on my guitar when I tuned down a whole step. You really have impressive pipes there my friend!! Any band ould be lucky to have you and you can probably outshine the guitarist in any band you join. One piece of advice. Don't outplay the other player. i did that in Gnostic and it cost me big. SOME Original members can be very sensitive hen someone shows up and outplays them. I should have kept a bit of a cork on it smile.gif

Great job Cael! This song is also enjoyable without vocals!

Thanks, Gabriel. I'm still thinking about doing vocals, but I originally wanted to finish the song before their new album came out, but now it's too late smile.gif Their new album came out Friday the 14th. Check out the thread about it if you haven't smile.gif

I'd like to hear a BEN song that is done in a similar style but that is a pure original. I like your production better than the actual band. I suspect I'd prefer your song writing as well.
