Oh Cosmin where do I start. I want to improve and learn all the techniques that I don't know.
I really want to learn all the picking techniques. I'm fairly new with alternate picking as I used to do only down strokes.
Sweep Picking. I can gallop a little bit but not real good at it. I struggle big time in Lead Playing. The problem is not playing the notes. It's phrasing them. I don't know if I told you or not but I changed back to the way I originally held my pick cause it was a mistake to try to relearn a whole new picking technique. It was not very comfortable at all either. I want to learn legato, as far as I know now it's some type of Latin Lizard. I hear it all the time but not sure I can even do it. Arpeggios would be great to be able to play. From what I know they are actually chords that are picked string by string??? I really want to improve my playing am willing to do what you think I need to, to improve it. I'm just going all kinds of different ways and genre's now that it's confusing as hell.
I love Metal but also Like Rock and Alternative ie: Green Day, Blink 182, etc.... Can you help me ??

Good day my friend smile.gif Of course I can help

We can start working on technique first hand and then we can see how to use the technique in various contexts smile.gif what do you say?

Let's start with Legato - a very interesting and often used technique! It's very fluid sounding because you don't pick every note, usually only the accents - it is a technique focusing mainly on the left hand!

Check out this wonderful lesson by our friend and fellow instructor Ben Higgins - what do you think? Let me know if you understand what's going on here and if you feel that this one is too difficult to start with wink.gif

Cosmin that seems doable. I'll practice it and get a REC up on it. How quick do you want me to work?? I just lost my job today after 8 years so theres $60,000.00 down the fucking drain. Sorry just really pissed today. I'm going to take it out on my guitars. Now I can practice all damn day and night.

Thanks Cosmin. Yeah I'll let you know. I did have one question. Can I substitute my ring finger for my little finger or is it important I get that little finger working fluid?

Hey dude I'm still trying to get past the second change of Bens Legato lesson. I'm getting used to using my little finger now but I cannot change to the 2nd string and shift those fingers very fluidly where now I'm using the 1,2 and pinky instead of the first one 1,3, + Pinky. Do you want me to just keep trying at it or do something else? Am I able to work on something else also maybe in between this lesson? I'm just getting frustrated now that's why I'm asking. I'm in a total new territory but will do what you suggest. How much time should I be practicing this?? Times not an issue now.

Thanks Cos.

Hey Mike! It's for the best to struggle on and do things exactly like Ben is showing in the lesson - trust me, it'll pay off! biggrin.gif

Hmmm, what other guitar territory would you like to explore? Something which you like a lot and you are a bit familiar with it - it's good to re-enforce your acquired skills while working on new ones, such as the legato lesson smile.gif

If you practice the legato lesson for 20-30 minutes a day, it'll be good in my opinion!

Agreed Cosmin. That's what I keep thinking also. I don't see it yet but it will be great later down the road. I've been continuing Ben's lesson and just taking it slow so I make sure it's right. I'm just taking my time and not rushing it. I'd rather have clarity instead of speed now. I did also notice if you learn something too fast that you'll screw up on it more than not. I like to go slow and get it into my muscle memory than bump it up just a little with the metronome. Hey I guess I could bump it up a bit before I've mastered the whole lesson? Or should I wait to master the lesson then bump it up? On the playing other stuff I sometimes play some of the things that I already know to kind of warm up etc.... not anything grueling that I'm having to learn. Hey I kept the Kid out of school today and Laura and I and Nicole went to see that Dark Shadows flick with Johnny Depp.
It was a real hoot. Take care cosmin and I'll continue on. Reminds me of "Onward through the Fog" Pink Floyd!

Hey Mike! Quick tip smile.gif first, get anything you learn into your muscle and brain memory at a slow speed and then increase speed gradually while being comfortable and confident. It is the best way to achieve success!
