I traded my Marshall Vintage Modern for an ENGL Powerball head,
with a matching 2x12 Engl Pro cabinet this weekend.
It sounds almost too amazing, although a bit too loud for my apartment at times tongue.gif

I got to test it quite a bit yesterday, and I'm as pleased as a boy can be biggrin.gif

The clean channel have the warmest tube sound I've ever heard, with the new JJ tubes wub.gif
The crunch channel was as tight as they come and sounded just perfect.
The low gain lead channel gives you anything from hard crunch to the punchiest metal I've ever heard.
The high gain lead channel is over the top heavy, metal, soloing etc.

And with the Custom Z-5 pedal you've got easy access to all channels/modes as well as a few other features!

When I get my Shure SM58 mics in a few weeks I'll record and share some sound samples with you smile.gif

And the metal grill on both the head and cabinet looks so good it's not even funny blink.gif

Anyone else have experience with this amp? If so, what do you think about it?

Have a great day, tudelidu! smile.gif

Traitor!!!

Congrats on new gear! wink.gif
How does this work with more vintage rock stuff? And just out of curiosity, why did you trade that Vintage Modern for a Powerall, seem like two different worlds to me biggrin.gif

Hahaha, I'm sorry tongue.gif

Thanks mate smile.gif
It works splendidly, sounds awesome on the cruch channel as you can dial in whatever rock tone you want!
I'll give you a few examples when I have the equipment to mic it up smile.gif

I tried a Powerball not long ago and was pretty much blown away by the versatility of the amp.
So when I got a request to trade the VM for the Powerball I couldn't resist smile.gif

I would have done that trade in a minute.
I've tried both and the powerball kills that vm.

Beautiful amp, man.
Don't forget that you can use an attenuator to crank the amp and get a quiet scream out of it.

What's the main thing you noticed that makes the Engl different from the Vintage Modern?

FrankW: I know, I have a THD hotplate although I haven't tried it with the Engl yet.
It sounds amazing at low volumes too, so that's really great smile.gif
The main difference is versatility, this thing can do everything really well.
The MVM was more of a classic rock amp which did Cleans and Rock overdriven sounds very well smile.gif
I like them both, but the Engl is just better (although not as user friendly at first) smile.gif

The Powerball is a great amp, realy great tones alround and i'm sure it has a built in noise gate to tame the overdriven tones when pushed hard through the poweramp tubes.I tried that head in guitar shop for a long time and was very impressed with its clean and mean settings. The lads working there must have liked it too as they turned me up so loud as to drown out the other players in the shop biggrin.gif
I played a new LP Classic through it and it seemed the perfect match in pickups/wood and tubes
