Hey hey hey! Let's all share some knowledge, is anybody at GMC into music production??
I'm sure there is What are, to you, the must have plugins and vst's ????
I'm getting into music production, i'm using cubase, my aim is to produce EDM. what DAW do you guys use? what do you produce?

Pretty much everybody here This question comes up quite a bit actually and there are some great thread about it in the forums so it's worth a search or few and the WIKI is packed with info as well. But hey, it's a forum so each time a question is repeated it's actually a good thing as the responses seem to get better and better and more streamlined

Hi ruben! I work as a producer and also use my computer to compose music and lessons. I use Cubase at my home and Nuendo at the studio. Regarding plug ins, I love Waves suites, they have lots of amazing plug ins for everything you can imagine. Sometimes I use Izotope for mastering. When I'm composing music, I also use some VSTi like Trillian (Bass), SSD 3.5 (drums), Massive, Reason and some other ones.

You said you want to produce EDM... is it electronic? what are your influnces?

I just mentioned to someone the other day while speaking vsti's and remembered the conversation when seeing this thread.

I don't do electronica but have a bunch of friends composing and I remember when studying I noticed specially sample based stuff (not all) sounded so much better when added 24 bit dither. I guess its because they were sampled 16 bit but when opened in a 24 bit project (compared to other vsti's or recording) they sound harsh.

Theory is arguable whether needed or not but on headphones differences were very audible to me and my friends at the time. Probably sampling has gone better since then but it doesn't hurt to try

Yes Gabriel, with EDM I mean eletronic, my main influences are from Drum an Bass ( in this gender, my fav sub-gender is neurofunk), and Dubstep, Glitch Hop, heavy electro sounds, Trap, Crossbreed, and a lot more I bealive everything I have ever listened has influenced me in a way or another.

High five to another Cubase user I've been using Cubase for years. Currently Artist 7.5 owner (upgrade to full 7.5 planned). Unfortunately I not a good person to advice plug-ins for electronic music but...lately did some walkthrough the pad, key, drums plug-ins delivered with cubase itself and I was pretty impressed

I'm a professional audio engineer and I specialise in mastering, so I earn my living 365 24/7 in music production. I've also done live and recording and mixing and have some 30 odd years experience. I've taught music and radio production for well over a decade at a UK University to undergradate and post graduate students and co authored a book on it.

I have and understand the engineering to an appropriate level and have sufficient, professional experience to be an AES (Audio Engineering Society) registered and approved audio engineer. I did my inturn/apprenticeship at two of the big UK mastering studios way back when we mastered for vinyl before CDs. I started and learnt on analogue - split and in-line consoles to reel to reel - used DAWs since the early 1990s...

I own my own mastering studio. We use the full version of sadie for our daw. It's the full blown Soundsuite version - I think it retail for about $5000 (5 thousand). It's what the UK's BBC use for major/high end production.

VSTs - we use hardly any as we mainly use hardware (some of which is mentioned in my signature below). What we do use quite regularly are Elephant as our main limiter and Izotope RX3 for some restoration/clean up.

I use Cubase myself, and I'm in the middle of recording two pop/rock songs.

I use Steven Slate Drums 4.0 for drums, Spectrasonics Trilian for bass (If I'm not playing my Fender).
I don't use Guitar simulation VSTs, so I can't recommend anything.

For general mixing VSTs I use Waves, Softube, Abbey Road, Sonnox Oxford and some free stuff..

It all depends on the song really, but there's a lot of good ones out there :-)

For EDM, there's probably heaps and heaps of free VSTi's out there. There's a blog called Bedroom Producers Blog (google), and they post when paid products are free for a limited time and when new free things release. I'd recommend staying up to date with it if you can.

Generally though, I don't really have any must-have plugins, except for a limiter it all depends on the situation.

Thanks for ther tip taka I'm signing up Right away! I'm not only looking for good vsts/plugins for EDM. Cause I'm sometimes i'm in the mood to try and produce random things like a hip hop track, of a more jazzy one or something like that. So I wanted to check what other people are using to serve as a guiding point

Folks here make all kinds of music but a large chunk tend towards rock/instrumental/progressive-Metal/Jazz/Blues.

I'm sure we must have some EDM guys though
