I just look for the bold icons.

I usually look for NEW POSTS at least once a day. Most times twice a day as I try to monitor my own forums like quick licks and such, but I still sometimes miss a post!

I meant "not faded"
  So when there are new posts, the icon is not faded, so it is bold in comparison
