Crystal Planet and Flying in a Blue Dream(probably because it's the first cd I had heard of his) are my favs. Surfing with the Alien has alot his best work, but I like to hear the songs live because...they sound better live,In my opinion.

Man, he's had great moments on every album though. Even Engines of the Creation, my least favorite, has Until We Say Goodbye and Borg Sex. What a talent.

All of Satchs' work is great, but the definitive Satriani has to be Surfing With The Alien. smile.gif

Every time I listen to Satch, I always put Crystal Planet and Strange Beautiful Music on repeat. All of them have there own merits, but something bout those albums that always makes me go think "I need to hear this album more". The exact same feeling I get from listening to Smashing Pumpkins Gish.

I like Crystal Planet best.

If I were to buy someone their first Satch album though it'd be Live in San Francisco.

There is a DVD too.

+1 to live in san fransisco. It has a lot of his best stuff and some of it is even superior to the studio versions I think. As for his studio albums, you can't really go wrong, I love his self titled one, the extremist and surfing are great, as well as the others mentioned here. His best newer one would be super colossal I think. But they're all REALLY good, and pretty unique.

My favorite is the "Joe Satriani" album.
Very blues orientated with Manu Katche on drums. He's one of my favorite drummers.

I also really like the new one "Prof Satchafunkilus"
