Alex,

Please help.
Is everything about speed?.. getting faster and faster on the lead?
Sometimes I feel that we are forgetting about the melody and the feeling in our playing???
... and maybe, just maybe it is not a question of generation... feelings will always transcend generation in my view.
Where should I evolve to? faster? or feelings?? (Shredding ??? OMG! Sorry guys!)
The Beatles, Clapton, Hendrix, The Stones and BBKing were more about expressing something to generations.
Making even an apolitical point!
There was a cultural message at times,.. even.
Is this Phrasing and lyrics Vs Technique and shredding?
Thanks for your guidance. I understand that there are several markets.
For now, I am trying to understand my connection with scales and melody!
Where do you think the market will evolve in the next 2 years?
So much to learn, so little time to guess!
Guess we're all caught in the same dilemma anyhow!
Thanks for your insight.

Great questions!
Technique is not important at all! Through my career there was a few gigs I had to shred but it was a very short and simple shred! smile.gif
It is all about feelings and dynamic however it is a good idea to be able to shred if you have to!
Music industry is changing all the time and it's hard to predict I think it will keep mixing with and will become more electronic
More synths and more rhythms but if I would know I would be a producer not a guitar player smile.gif

Hi Alex,

Thanks for this new assignment. Seems interesting and I'm trying to link it with the theory.

Question though:

I can hear comfortably Amin penta over Dmin, Gmin penta over Bb, Dmin penta over Gmin but,..
I cannot figure out Amin penta over F. It sounds weird.
There is not even a F in the Amin pentatonic scale.
(Maybe my instinct is to keep wishing to resolve on a F there - Sounds a bit better though if I resolve on the perfect 5th i.e. C)

I understand we are in Dmin progression. (I VI IV III)
Harmonizing for Natural minor I get: Dm - Em - F - Gm - Am - Bb - C

In principle any of these scales (including Am) should sound in "harmony" as this is the "harmonisation" (Right?)
Am I missing a piece here?
(Better to consult with you before I see my doctor for earing testing cool.gif Haha )

Thanks for your guidance.

I am glad you have asked this question! wink.gif
The reason I gave you this assignment is so you will be able to hear the difference between modes and shapes!
I purposely put A minor pentatonic over F so you will get a phrygian sound it is not wrong the pentatonic works fine
By doing this exercise you will be able to choose better notes and will start analyzing chords deeper!
What throws you away is E over F we can consider it as a natural 7th if you will be thinking about this progression as F major you will have E natural so the pentatonic is totally fine just have to get use to it and make "smart" note choices! smile.gif
Would you like me to record a take to give you ideas?
Let me know!

I don't know if I worked this out correctly.
I tried to stick to the scales based on the chord progression.
I find it difficult not to loosen up and go for it on one scale.
The scale switching certainly requires a different concentration
Anyhow here it is.

PS: I may give it a try tomorrow or Friday if I have the time.

You did very well! I know it is not a easy challenge and it makes your brain to work in a different direction! smile.gif
Now I think a good thing would be to add a few licks to your library!
I have a cool lesson that has 15 blues licks that will also work over the backing track I gave you!
Here it is!

Let me know what do you think:)

Hi Alex,

I started to work on the 15-Blues Licks as per your last assignment.
Still working on it but while practicing one of my own composition on the acoustic today,
I surprised myself in incorporating some of your licks into it. (I guess it's getting in somehow..)
Hope you will not be offended.
My rhythm is somewhat different to link with the acoustic rhythm.
Anyhow it also proves that these licks can be interpreted differently from the tab of course.
I'll get back to the assignment this week - promised.

Thanks
