anyone here like avenged sevenfold?i really like them, especially the songs "afterlife" and "seize the day".but the song by them-a little piece of heaven-that song is just downright weird...just wondering if u guys liked this band

We had many topics about them and I can say that they have many lovers and also many haters.. it's a polemic band . I listen to their music and like some songs but I'm not a fan. I have no problem with their image, the clothes that they use and the make up. I like the hard/glam rock of the 80's scene so what the difference?

They're ok, thrashed and scattered is probably the song I like the most from them. Like a lot of bands I like listening to their music but their videos really put me off.

I absolutely adored "Waking The Fallen" when it came out. And sounding the seventh trumpet is allright too. The city of evil is a bit too much towards power metal for my taste and I haven't heard the new album yet.

But as far as I'm concerned, good guitarists, good drummer, amaaazing vocalist.

I LOVE them! They are my all time favorite band! Synyster Gates is also my all time guitar idol.

When that is said and done - I like all of their songs almost, and the mentioned A Little Piece of Heaven is especially cool, due to all the theatrical effects in it, and because it's so upright weird, which is a huge bonus. I find their solo's and guitar harmonies especially cool too. They are not like every other band music wise either. Shadows, the vocalist, is one of a kind in my eyes, with his extremely powerful and versatile voice. Zacky V, the rhythm guitarist is also pretty darn good on soloing as well as rhythm, as seen in some of their harmonies, and also a vocalist good enough to fill the vocalist role if needed. I don't know much about Johnny Christ, the bassist, because it's very hard to hear him. The Rev is the best drummer in my opinion, and he has pretty similar style as Joey from Slipknot, who are a good drummer, no matter what you think of Slipknot's music. He have also written a lot of the bands most popular songs like "Almost Easy", "A Little Piece Of Heaven" and "Critical Acclaim". And finally, Synyster Gates. He writes most of the bands music and guitars, and what I like with him the most, is his ability to take things from other cultures and mix them together to make the music one of a kind, both in sound and all that. Many people compare his style to Alexi Laiho, except that I find Syn's playing even cleaner and better, and he can play even faster too.

And of course I love their image!

Don't like the faux shredding(but still not as bad as Dan Jacobs), pretty decent songwriting. For some reason everytime I see that freakin abbreviation of thier name I want to kick a stoner in the balls.

Thats because theres nothing good to hear. i HATE them, but then again, i hate crappy, recycled Pop Music in general, so ,i guess thats to be expected. now excuse me while i go listen to some REAL metal.

All he does is shred Chromatic runs. badly. there is good metal out there, but you wouldn't know it from this. may i humbly suggest listening to High On Fire? Heavy as hell, and one of the best metal bands out there right now.

i have, and it sucks. its all just a bunch of random notes strung together. this is not metal, its crappy pop marketed as metal to people who don't know any better.

His recorded stuff is pretty ok, he just doesn't impress me. His sense of melody is ok, and his speed runs could be much better, and I'm sorry but his vibrato IMO is pretty horrible. Just overall, he sounds very ameteurish. He could benefit alot with some quite time alone with his guitar and a drum machine, and some blues practicing to get his vibrato in shape.
IMO Alexi Laiho is much better. He just sounds like a pro, the devil is in the details, and the details of Synyster's playing is not there IMO.
I'm totally with guitarman on this one, check out High On Fire, they are a 3 piece, Matt Pike is a killer guitar player, clean, fast, good vibrato, nice and aggressive when he needs it, spacey and atmospheric when the song calls for it.

I'm just going to say something noticed. With metal guitarists there are several kind.
1) Elites, these people ave mastered speed and accuracy, AND they have there other techniques (such as vibrato legato and bends, just to name a few) just as good. They have the knowledge of music theory and are able to APPLY it to there music. 2)Ehhhh, these people most likely have got there speed picking fast, but its sloppy, and they don't know because they use way to much distortion. They also have little experience in areas that are just as important to guitar such a vibrato and bends, and fail to use them if at all. They fall into the speed trap (quite literally) and they are unable to change.
Some of my favorite metal solos are slow and have extensive vibrato and bends. Speed is not necessary, although it can be a good thing in doses. Thats my opinion, and we are all entitled to our own.

This thread remember me to when Guns and roses appeared. All the people was fighting saying that it was metal and that it wasn't metal, that they were true rock and that they were false wock... and lots of things like that. Now I can say that they was one of the best rock bands of the 90's. (Maybe the best)

Ax7 can't be compared to GNR off course... but this remembers me to it. I think that Ax7 has something that makes them special (NOTE: I don't listen to them). Otherwise nobody would be talking about them... come on! There are a lot of bad/ugly bands around the world... why are we talking about ax7?

i havent heard much from him, but ive heard a long jam he did live. i have no words, its so amazingly bad. it sounds like those people who are joking with clapton, vai etc. when they take a live vid and play over it super bad. thats just my opinion though.

Thats a bit extreme, but they are really poppy, especially their newest album. They're awfully emo and gay, especially zacky vengeance. And seriously, whats with the dodgy, self-coined nicknames, it a bit pathetic. Their terrible gay-poser image really destroys a reaonable band IMO.

Bottom line is that they are getting paid to play music.... and anyone who can get paid for doing what they love, you cant hate them for that...

except thats exactly what this band is. it might be easy to overlook their inanely stupid "nicknames" and poser attitude if the music was actually heavy, complex or even good, but its not, so they don't have a leg to stand on. its a classic example of all style (bad style at that) and no substance. there is SOOO much good metal out there these days, lamb of god, high on fire, Nile, just to name a few. try listening to some of those.

AX7 are awful and it's mainly because 1) They murdered Walk Live and 2) The singer is appaling. He seems to get worse and worse with each album. I went with my brother to the gig so he'd have somebody to go with about 4 years back and it was terrible. They can't play. The guitar was all over the place and the vocalist sounded like an irate swan. On record the guitars are alright. But that is it I'm afraid. Much better bands out there that really can play and do their own songs justice live.

I've just started listening to A7X recently and I really like it. Especially afterlife and seize the day. I don't see why so many people hate them really, I mean Guitarman700 would do himself a world of good if he chilled out a bit. Getting your opinion is what this thread is all about, but there's no need to repeatedly have a go at anyone who likes it. I also fail to see how synyster gates is rubbish, you guys must be pretty talented if you think he's bad. And saying that the seize the day solo is a random collection of notes is really over the top.

Anyways, thats just my opinion...

well, im an old fan of A7x and i don't actually undersand some of you'r comments like "the vocalist sings through the nose" and "synyster gates is one of the worst guitarists out there.
Maybe synyster isn't always a surgeon on the strings live, but sure he got his own style, and same for the whole A7X!
Can anyone give me a band with similar sound and style? im waiting!

personally I think Synister Gates should have been on the front of GH3 because he IS a guitar hero. the whole reason I'm on this site is to learn metal and eventually be able to play like him. I have to admit their newest album is nto there best but afterlife is an amazing song! A7X is one of my favorite bands and the rock!

Waking the Fallen is still a great album regardless of what anyone says. Everything else they have ever released has been utter gash. I've never seen them live and never plan to so I can't comment there.
