Ive been wondering since ive started playing where actually I need to place my right hand.... like should I let it rest on the strings im not playing, should it just be kinda hovering there, or is there any special placement to it... Any help would be appreciated...

theres a few different things you can do with your right hand. most just depend on comfort. Resting your hand on your bridge is the most common, that way when you have to palm mute its an easy movement. Another way is simply holding your hand above the strings, tirering but more efficient, sometimes holding your hand up by resting fingers on your pickups. For standard playing just rest your hand on your bridge smile.gif

Well it deoends on what techniques you are using of course, but a sensible default position would be resting on or near the bridge for instand palm muting ...

ahh thanks. Ive normally been keeping it actually on the strings i wasnt playing because that helped stop excess noise from my strings... I guess ill do it the right way though!

Nothing wrong with that - muting is an important thing to do - if you keep it by the bridge though you can easily switch from full muting to damping to letting the strings ring.

Well I guess this would be a completely different question then...

Whenever I play on the highest strings (without damping the other strings) I get strings ringing out without me playing them (which causes a bunch of noise). Is this normal? I could be playing a solo and without even touching the A string or D string, they start ringing out (in what sounds like harmonics)... Its weird!

My hand is always on the bridge - right at the place where the strings go in the bridge! I can easily mute that way but also i don't mute when not needed! smile.gif

that happens to me sometimes, and yeah, it sounds like harmonics. I sometimes also rest my right hand on the top strings when not playing them, somehow i feel that the bridge is too far away. Dont know if this is a good thing...
