Free program I came across just yesterday. It's basically Photoshop for free and much more user friendly. Overnight I made these two things for fun, pretty easy to pick up and learn.

I recently started to use gimp to modify some of the graphics in the computer games I play. Its pretty cool to use but can be a little tricky to get the hang of at first. If you do a search on youtube for gimp how to videos, they can be a great help wink.gif Also, if you are familiar with adobe photoshop, you can probably pick up gimp pretty quickly, since many of the features are the same.

The first one is just three separate images that are layered and faded to create the image in the eye. Pretty simple, not a lot of editing. Second one was a picture of Alma from F.E.A.R. (the game) and I first, outlined her face with the "fuzzy tool", and deleted, leaving just her heads silhouette. I then filled it in with color that was made to look more "Silent Hill-esque", just used the brush tool and did just a few spots here and there of medium dark tannish color, and used the smudge tool to blend it in with some blacks to make more detailed. I am not good enough to do hair and make it look good or real, so once again, I just painted basic lines, and used the smudge tool to create the distortion effect. I just completely erased her eye and in its place made the fiery orange circle using the same aforementioned techniques.

GIMP is killer! It started out on LINUX and runs on everything now. It's very powerful and Open Source! A fine choice and well done on the graphics! Post a tutorial!

That's a great program as an alternative for PS, and it's free. I know some companies that use it in order to cut the costs down, no one wants to pay PS if there are these programs, so unless you are professional and need "heavy-weight" stuff, this can do the job nicely.

Just donwloaded and started playing around with GIMP but it's so difficult !! mad.gif

All I really need it for is to make gig flyers with. One thing I can't figure out is how to take a picture of a band logo which has a white background, and make the white background disappear so the coloured logo just shows up over the background instead of a white block with the band name written in it.

For example, I'd use a picture of the band live as the background, then paste band logos onto the background but get rid of the white background of the pasted band logo so just the logo remains. I hope that makes sense ?? wink.gif
