Original lesson: Alternate Picking Workout #3 by Darius Wave

Hay... I can't do this any faster !!. What should I do? .. i think my picking hand! .. if i compare them to Darius !!! .. but how can i solve that! .. different guitar attitude or something?

At this point you don't need to focus on speed, you need to focus on this two elements:

- Try to minimize your picking hand movement.
- Try to keep your left hand fingers closer to the fretboard.
- Put both hands in sync.


In order to be able to do these things, you need to slow down a bit the tempo and polish your technique. Follow these steps:

- Divide what you are playing here in smaller blocks.
- Isolate your hands and work on each hand at a time.
- Push your speed limit for each hand.
- Get back to a slower tempo and practice the blocks using both hands in sync. (but try to emulate the movements and mechanics used for high speed with each "isolated" hand)
- Increase tempo.
- Once you did this with one block, start with the second block. Repeat the steps, and then work on connection these two blocks.

You need to change practicing strategy, based on what we see here.

* Your right hand movements are not consistent. At slow tempos you should strive for machine like picking consistency/precision if your goal is to increase speed. There is no time to think about that stuff when you play fast!

* Also, to be able to increase speed in a controlled manner - you need to constantly think about controlling tension - and have both your hands as relaxed as possible. Again this can only be improved when practicing slowly.

* For this type of pedal note lick, you cannot really have two notes ringing at the same time - as this will create unwanted distorted type of chords/double stops (noise)

To make you feel better I've spent years on developing my alternate picking technique and to be honest most of the job was done when I was a kind. I'm not sure how does this refer to age in any way, but I guess we have more time and focus fro these things when we are kids + maybe muscle memory goes easer? Not sure but what I can tell for 100% is alternate pickign requires constant, regular, focused practise. This part of playing is physical as any sport. Take smaller amount of time, but make sure everyty single day you spend at least"X" time on pushing your hand to it's limits. That's how you can develope.

I've mades omethign based on the most obvious but mos tefficient kidn of practise that made me instantly notice progress during weeks of constant practise. I highly recommend this for you as well.

For the "image" you deliver, your hand looks proper if we speak of pick grips and hand resting + hand shaping.

Sometimes you can angle the pick even more whe it feels the pick to stuck between strings

The "not obvious" trick about fast alternate picking is....your left hand (that's correct)

If you do not focus on it really well, the hands sync isse will make your playign sound incorrect even if your right hand will do it's job descently. That's what I can notice in your video.

...also...the trick is to mute string aroudn with a tip of finger (usually index) and bottom of finger (also usualyl index). You need to secure strings around the one you play. In fast picking even if you hit two strings while string skipping, you will not make a sound of both. This is also cirtical.

So in general..I see some hard workd needed for both hands but huge part of the problem here is you underated left hand.
