Hey guys! No need to introduce Rusty Cooley so i'll just give you a link to a phone interview which talks about loads of stuff.

http://www.smartassradio.com/

Especially there is a piece of interview where Rusty answers to all those "emotional" guitarists what shred playing is and all the bending talk! smile.gif

Also be sure to check this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=-FpVYfP0Xlo

Enjoy it!

EDIT: whoops, missed the link! smile.gif

After being out of the house for 12 hours i'm not surprised at all that i forgot the link. I'm also doing homework for university, watching YouTube vids of Rusty, listening to mp3's and trying to post this topic biggrin.gif

For those who are interested: Dean Guitars are also building Rusty his signature 6-string and 8-string guitar. Can't wait to see what an 8-string will look like smile.gif

What is the tuning for an 8-string? If I'm not mistaken, a 7-string is EADGBEB....but what about an 8?

No, a 7 string would be (top to bottom) EBGDAEB

I would guess an 8 string would add another 4th below the B to give you a an F# maybe ...

Yeah, that would be the most common tuning.

Yeah, Rusty said it was so he could get the super high notes only instruments like Violin can reach. Thats what a few other 8 stringers use for tuning as well, like Meshuggah.

Originally a 7-string guitar was planned to have a high A string - first 7-string was Ibanez Universe but as soon as you touched the high A string it would brake so they decided to put a low B string.

High A string is actually not that high and you can't kill cats with it wink.gif

Listen to Rusty's "Prelude To Madness" - it's played on Conklin 8-string and is a killer shred piece.

If you really need a weapon for cats than visit some air-guns web-shops wink.gif laugh.gif

The new Ibanez 8-string has a low F# string and you actually can't find any use for it because it sounds horrible.
