Credit is tight and most people are simply not buying frivolous items (did I just call a Stratocaster "Frivolous" ? ) Fender is a privately owned company and therefore not publicly traded (no stock). I know this because I was going to short their stock after reading various posts on music store blogs where lists of people who were ready to pull the trigger on a Fender decided against it.
