I Need Structure Options

I think i need some structure to my practicing. I have add and it is hard for me to concentrate. I tend to jump from lesson to lesson not finishing anything. I am a beginner and do not know much i did go though that first steps course already. I think what i need is for some one to help me set up a practise schedule with me im talking about which lesson and for how long and help me set goals. I am in the military and stuck on base most of the time so i have easily 7 hours of freetime after work. so time is not really an issue. I feel like i am getting no where even though i have all these great resources in front of me. (which i do appreciate greatly.) i also feel like i dont understand how to tackle these lessons. I am dedicated 110% to learning guitar I have wanted to learn since i was nine. I am 20 now i know i am starting late but i am determined i just need some help.

I started when I was almost 19 so it is never too late. What types of things are you wanting to learn? Give me an example of a lesson you are having a hard time tackling.

But one of my problems is i jump around i am easily distracted i need to set up a fixed practise schedule or something cause if i have guidelines i belive i will be able to concentrate better.

Have you considered joining the GMC Mentoring Program? Also, GMC is going to start an endorsement program based on the lessons you complete. You will be able to achieve a ranking based on the lessons you submit to a panel of instructors and seniors.

Glen,
I think the best way to tackle any lesson on GMC is to break it down into licks and then string them together. Since this lesson is not a solo type lesson I would just break it down into four bar chunks and learn it that way. If you have a hard time focusing I would really reccomend you practice with a timer. Set your timer for say 10 minutes and learn the first four bars. When the timer goes off set it for another 10 minutes and move on to the next 4 bars. Once you learn the whole lesson the timer will keep you on schedule and keep you focused. I use a timer when I practice and I find it keeps me focused. When learning a lick sometimes the timer thing isn't that great because you sometimes need an hour or so just to learn the lick and get it under your fingers. But once you get the lick memorized and into your muscle memory I think the timer thing is great because it keeps you focused. When the timer goes off you move on to the next part of your practice routine.

I think you should really think about the Mentored Training Program as well. Some one on one with a more experienced player would work wonders for you I think.

You and me both... im constantly jumping from lesson to lesson or song to song learning stuff... and youre not starting late, im 40
