GMC Forum _ THEORY _ Can't Find The Right Scale!

hey!

ive played a lick over simple 3 chord-progression and got some 'mystical' sounding shit.. i checked out a online scale finder to look which scale im playing over this progression but i cant find a scale which contains this notes.

chords: C - D - E

lick: A - B - C# - F#

im not sure if my ear is playing a prank or if its okay to play this lick over the chord progression.

Hey

It looks like a section of an A Lydian scale. So E major. It has some notes that would fit over these chords and others that will clash, like C# over C and D# over D. So that's what you are hearing, the tension from those notes over the chords.
