INTRO

This is PART II of what we started in the last Quick Licks with SHREDDING THE BLUES. This lick also goes great with GABES blues backing from the JAM WITH GABE COLLAB. It's a very cool backing to jam over and you can use any inspiration from this to create a take for the GABE JAM! Here is the link to the JAM WITH GABE page.

Just like the last licks YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY THIS FAST. You can play it at any speed that feels right and it will still sound great against the backing or by itself. It's a great way to start building your speed/precision. It was with licks like this that I finally broke through my own speed barrier and began to be able to play at any speed I liked. This lick uses something similar to a BAR CHORD and you fret two strings at once and leave them fretted. Then you do pull offs and picking which makes it sound like you are playing way faster than you actually are. Your palm muting is very important since these two strings stay fretted and you have to mute any unwanted string noise.

Nicely Done!!! This is the one of those that I used that TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES "ish" opening riff thing to build a solo lick. This is not an easy bit to play. It requires pretty much constant string traverse and you pick hand never gets to stop moving. It's pretty much non stop the entire time. You did very well on this which is Awesome! Learning just about any Racer X or Paul Gilbert tune/riff/lick is a great way to learn a lot of things at one time. You'll find those skills translate to a host of other things. Super Congrats!! You KRUSHED it. You are knocking up against the upper decks on Rank for Quick Licks. In no time at all you may over take as TOP DAWG.Keep it up! Nailed it and .....

You may have noticed that this is the same picking pattern that is used in so many quick licks and bootcamps. Two strikes on one string, then two strikes on the next string up then repeat. The only thing that changes is what is being fretted. If you can get this picking pattern down you can play a huge variety of licks using only four pick strikes. I can hear that your first finger is having a bit of a hard time fretting two strings at once which is another challenge in this one. That's something that will also get better with time. But you have the mechanics of this lick down and it's NOT an easy lick. I'm playing it at full chat and making it look like it's not that tough until one digs in and realizes it's far more tricky than it looks. You've got this one and well done for giving it a go!

Well done!!! Thss is a very tricky bit indeed. It involves doing a barred pulloff in addition to doing some complicated picking. The picking pattern here is my favorite. Two strikes on two strings. It sounds simple enough, until one tries to play it at speed without choking it up. It's tricky. However, once you get familiar with it, it can be used in all sorts of cool licks. You've actually played this picking pattern before in some of our previous work. Several of my favorite licks are based on this same pattern. You may recognize it from other things. if not, don't worry, it will show up again. You've got it going nice and smooth. Your picking is even and well paced. Also, your left hand is doing a fine job. You are keeping the notes fretted as needed and doing good pull offs. So we are combining alt picking, pull offs, and multi string, multi picking in one lick. It's a lot to put together and you did a great job with it!
