I'm a Manchester United fan....ducks all the rotten food and empty beer cans being thrown in my direction....

I'm a Middlesbrough fan. Not so glamorous but I wouldn't support anybody else. Been a fan my whole life.

The Eagles, there was no distinction between Football Club and Rugby Football Club.
IMO folks who still like soccer are stuck in the past, rugby is the pinnacle of mankind's ingenuity

If that means Rugby is absolute arse I agree
Lots of big ponces slapping each other to get hold of the ball.

I dont really follow sports- but i support the referee.
Tough job but he always pulls through.
And lets face it there 1 referee (a few assistants) VS. 2 teams of 11 players and the referee hardly ever loses, (he may even score a goal from time to time )

As opposed to a bunch of primadonas falling down and clutching their knee/ankle whenever another player even thinks about touching them and pleading the ref to blow up play?

that's the truth spoken right there!!! I love to watch soccer but I can't stand all the acting, I've got no respect left over for those acting monkeys. Crybabies.
While a rygby player can get hit real hard and just shrugs it off. If he lay down, he's hurt for real.
So from that aspect, soccer has some primadonnas but also fair players, let's call them men, while in rygby there's only one hundered percent men.
And sorry Goliath, I know you're playing american football, rygby or something and I wasn't implying you're a man or labeling you a man in any way. Certainly not in a primadona sort of way, if you get what I mean

Fights in Rugby are amazing. Proper punches and trampling. Then the ref tells them to stop and they all do. In football it is a few pushes and if they touch the players go down for ages. Amazing.
Saying that I do like both sports.

Football - Everton ever since I was v young and always will regardless of whether or not we win anything. I agree with Organised Confusion about not supporting anyone else - it saddens me that some fans are there only when a team is doing well and disappear when they aren't.
Rugby League - St Helens.
Rugby Union - London Irish and Ireland.
Cheers,
Tony

Everton were the last team to beat us 8 games ago Everton are a very strong team however. Can see them being contenders for top 5 places every season.

It would be nice mate but I don't think we have a big enough squad - one injury or suspension and we're a bit stuffed and we don't have the cash to buy success.
BTW - your team isn't, imo, bad - I think you just need a bit of confidence and you'll be fine. Barcodes up the road though - well I can see them going down if they're not careful.
Cheers,
Tony

We've had some good results lately and not lost in 8. We have Liverpool Away next but nevermind
We beat Arsenal already this season
I think Sunderland and Newcastle are in slight trouble. I think Derby, Fulham and Sunderland will be for the drop.

I think you can overturn L'pool. Domestically their form isn't great and tactically they seem to lose the plot quite a bit. (Barsnley, Havant and Waterlooville )
I'd quite like Sunderland to stay up. Derby definitely gone and Fulham most probably. Third for the drop - one of Birmingham/Reading/Wigan but if Barcodes don't improve then on their recent form they might go instead and Keegan still doesn't seem to have got a handle on things yet...

It's a big weekend of games coming up so we'll have to see what happens. I'm going to the Boro vs Reading game so hopefully we can get something there with them being near the bottom of the league. If we win at weekend then we may be able to break into the top half if Spurs lose.

With Reading's away form Boro should walk away with three points...

No worries, I play rugby union. When I said Eagles I meant US Eagles, since our "Super League" gets less coverage than soccer and there isn't a super league team in the area of the US I live in. I played soccer for 14 years but when I finally did start playing rugby it was incredible and I've played it now for almost 5 years.
After watching this last world cup and wanting to climb through the screen and kick each player that was challenged on a 50/50 ball then rolled around and grabbed their ankle because he didn't come away with it, the transition was pretty much complete.
This past rugby world cup they showed about half of pool play and all of bracket play in tape delay, so I watched every single match that was on TV. Only problem is now that we're into 6 nations and the only places that show it charge a $20 cover and it's at 9AM or 11AM on saturdays. Of the 6 nations, I'll take England. Tri Nations, flip a coin, all of those pacific rim teams are a ball to watch. Ultimately, my squad, the Atlanta Renegades RFC would be my favorite.
American football pretty much bores me to no end unless I'm there live. Phenomenal athletes, but it's a bunch of "hurry up and wait". You watch one minute of play and you've watched MAYBE 15 seconds off the total game clock, whereas with the other football/soccer and rugby, a minute of the clock is probably 50 seconds off the actual game clock (stoppage/injury time).

I was born in the middle east, with an Irish father/Chinese mother, and have lived in lots of different countries but went to school and university in UK and worked there most of my adult life. I spent a lot of my childhood in L'pool, did my first degree there and have a lot of paternal cousins and uncles and aunts there still majority of whom are Everton
. So as far back as I can remember I've been a Toffee. Left the Pool years ago for work and subsequently moved to Spain a few years ago.
Yes I know what you mean about where the fan base are located though. Liverpool University survey a few years ago demonstrated the same - majority of L'pool supports Everton and majority of Everton fans are from Liverpool. The same is not true of LFC (or the so called 'big three')
.

I'd move around more but I'm quite settled in Nottingham at the minute after moving here 2 years ago.

Because you've played in some of the most boring games this season. You've won a fair few games that you didn't deserve to. And Gareth Southgate looks like a horse, and always goes on about team spirit, and staying together, which is very very annoying.
and also because I want Wigan to stay up because Titus Bramble is absolutely hilarious. I want Reading to stay up because I live there and want to watch premiership football.

I think we've deserved all the wins we've had as we've played well in the games we've won. I doubt we'll go down in this season or in the next ones to come as we are so much better than the teams below and we've proved it by beating them
We beat Arsenal and deserved to beat them. And we're gonna beat Reading in just over a weeks time
Gareth is ace and has brought lots to the club. I'm a very happy content Boro fan and we are going up the table nicely. I don't think we are anywhere near as boring as Derby, Fulham, Wigan etc. Most boring game of the season was Chelsea/Liverpool.

Yeah I don't think you'll go down either, but meh. Yeah the Liverpool/Chelsea game was dire. Mind you, most Chelsea games are. I laugh loudly at every point Liverpool and Newcastle drop as well as I want them all to fail. Especially after Keegan said that Newcastle would finish in the top six.
Also it looks like Avram Grant has received anti-Semitic death threats, which is a real shame.

I actually think Taylor should be banned for the same length of time it takes Eduardo to return to football.
Wenger said "Taylor should never play again"
It's sickening. Absolutely sickening.
Posted by: Duncan Feb 24 2008, 12:51 AM
To be fair Wenger was over reacting. He retracted his statement earlier. Taylor didn't fly in, it was from a standing start. Horrific challenge yes, but at the same time it was more clumsy that malicious.
Newcastle were hilarious. Rooney's second was an absolute peach.

I still think Taylor should be banned for at least 5 games as you just can't do a two footed lunge as itwill end people's careers. Do you reckon Eduardo will ever play again? Apparently it may take 18 months for him to play again but he may never be the same.

That's the thing though. It was two footed. This picture proves that:
Still a normal ban would suffice I reckon. A tackle like that though, he'll come back, but he'll never be the same. A real shame cause he could have been amazing. What the hell was Gallas doing at the end though, throwing a paddy. Shameful.

I know emotions were running high but Gallas was pathetic at the end. Captains don't act that way. I feel really sorry for Eduardo. Such a young talent and it could have all been taken away. He's definitely out for 12 months. Let's hope its 12 months and he is much better after it. Man United were probably laughing whilst watching that but unfortunately the whole game was soured by the challenge. However you look at it,it was sickening. Even though it wasn't malicious you still can't help but be sickened by it. And Steve Bruce is mad. I think everybody knows it was a straight red.
I think Arsenal should have been given a penalty also, not Birmingham but either way today was a good day for Boro as nobody below us were capable of doing anything apart from Wigan. We had a great game but 2 defensive big errors ruined our day.
Posted by: Duncan Feb 24 2008, 01:35 AM
Eduardo is a real shame. I've spoken to a few Man Utd fans, and they're all shocked at the injury. It's not nice to see anyone get injured. Yeah Gallas is an idiot. Should be dropped for that. It will be interesting to see how Arsenal pick themselves up. If the pressure gets to them again it could be the end of their title hopes. I can't see Manchester United having another dip in form. Plus Arsenal have still to Play Man Utd again. So a nice close battle this year.
I had to laugh at some of the Middlesbrough defending. Especially for Torres' second. The keeper came running out and got behind his defender in the que to have a go at stopping Torres. Fantastic.
Apart from that though, you played pretty well. Had the ball in the back of the net 4 times counting the two standing goals. Close calls as well.

That was the 3rd goal but I know what you mean. It's stupid errors that cost us. I think we just got overly excited by the situation of playing well and being 1-0 up against Liverpool. Sheffield United next on Wednesday

Ah yeah, the second was the quality strike. I can imagine the FA cup replay to be extremely boring. Not really fussed about who goes through. I'm just glad Liverpool and Arsenal are out.

Dont you think we had all the good chances all the way through? We should have won it 3-0 but we couldn't finish our chances. They got what they deserved for playing so negatively. We played well I thought against a Championship side as they are always hard to play against. Look at Man City and Liverpool
Posted by: Duncan Feb 28 2008, 08:16 PM
Yeah you did have the better chances. I was just saying you're goal was pretty lucky. I could have sworn it was going to penalties.

Can't believe Arsenal equalised in the last minute. Still to lose a 5 point lead in 2 weeks is pretty shocking. LOL at Newcastle, yet again.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 1 2008, 09:57 PM
We were absolutely terrible today. Worse game I've ever seen us play and that is saying something lol. It should have been 0-0 as Reading were useless as well but congrats on the goal. I think we were still tired after Wednesday Anyway we have Cardiff a week tomorrow on the Sunday and we can't lose. Please tell me we can't lose Duncan. haha
Posted by: Duncan Mar 2 2008, 12:29 AM
The way you played against Sheffield Utd, you easily could. Cardiff are higher than Utd. Knowing Middlesbrough though, you'll pull out some jammy 1-0 win!
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 2 2008, 12:33 AM
Trust me. The game against Reading was 10 times worse. Supporting Boro leads to an early death through stress lol but I'd never support anybody else. I'll still get a season ticket. Boro Forever

Also, commiserations OrganisedConfusion, but you were completely outplayed.

I don't think any Boro fan would complain. They deserved it. We won't win a game against anybody playing like we did though. I don't think many Boro fans are happy with performances lately. We better start doing something soon. If we had played football we would have beat them. We didn't even look like we wanted the ball.

Champions League Quarters:
1 Arsenal v Liverpool
2 AS Roma v Man Utd
3 Schalke 04 v FC Barcelona
4 Fenerbahce v Chelsea

The Rehearsal Draw was better as all english teams were drawn apart.
Posted by: Duncan Mar 14 2008, 01:46 PM
Still not a bad draw. Arsenal and Liverpool seem to do well in Europe so it could be a good game. Plus if Chelsea win their tie, they'll go on to play Arsenal/Liverpool.
Manchester United have got it tough though. Roma have just knocked out Real, and will still be bitter after losing 7-1 last year.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 14 2008, 01:47 PM
Who do you reckon then Duncan to win each tie?
I reckon
1 Liverpool
2 Man Utd
3 FC Barcelona
4 Chelsea
Then Liverpool and Barcelona in the final
Posted by: Duncan Mar 14 2008, 04:09 PM

http://forums.icnorthwest.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=33755&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 makes interesting reading - note the time of the OP . Someone, on a different forum, has worked out the odds for guessing the draw correctly as about 1 in 133 so not impossible to guess just unlikely, nonetheless the Liverpool Echo (local Liverpool newspaper) is investigating and it's reported in the http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/03/14/mystery-as-champions-league-draw-appears-on-internet-two-hours-early-89520-20351088/ and http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/03/14/mystery-as-champions-league-draw-appears-on-internet-two-hours-early-89520-20351088/.
Warning btw - the forum link above contains some bad language.
Personally I'd love for Barcelona to win it now.

I'd like to think that too. Would be great for them to win it 50 years on from Munich, but I can't see them beating Barca.
Any bets on how many goals Man United are going to put past Derby today? I'm going for 4.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 15 2008, 02:54 PM
What about how many Boro will beat Arsenal by I so hope we do the double on them this season. We are the only team to pick up 3 points against Arsenal in the League
Posted by: Duncan Mar 15 2008, 03:01 PM
I would love it if Boro did the double over Arsenal, that would be hilarious.

Derby what the hell are doing?
Hurry up and cave in.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 15 2008, 08:24 PM
I'll take a 1-1 draw Could have held on for the win but it certainly is a better result for us than it is for them.

I'd like to thank Boro sincerely for helping to continue Arsenals awful league form.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 15 2008, 08:29 PM
Who do you want to win the League?
Two points picked up from 2 Away games is so important for us and all we need to do next is beat Derby at home and we'll be so much safer
Posted by: Duncan Mar 15 2008, 08:36 PM
I'd like to see Manchester United win it. They had a poor start to the season but have come back so well. Even when Arsenal were 5 points clear they kept at it. Also the youngsters are Man Utd have performed so well I think they deserve a trophy.

Haha, you'll be fine against Derby. They seem to have played their one good performance this season last weekend so they'll be back to being piss poor again.
Liverpool vs Manchester United should be good. Hope United nick it, giving Everton a chance to take 4th again. Arsenal vs Chelsea will probably be a boring 1-1 draw we've all come to expect by now.

What a game between Chelsea and Tottenham tonight. Unbelievable. Keane's 88th minute strike was an absolute peach.
Ronaldo's free kick in the Bolton game was pretty good too. 24 goals in the premier league so far.
Posted by: Duncan Mar 20 2008, 01:37 AM
I just read this on a BBC 606 debate about Man United needing new strikers:
"Well i totally agree that we have to get rid of Saha but we have to bring in a player that possesses a aerial threat as Tevez and Rooney are crap if we play long. Maybe Crouch."
You can't begin to imagine how hard I laughed. If Man Utd bought Crouch I think I'd lose faith in football.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Mar 20 2008, 09:33 AM
lol. That is really hilarious. They certainly don't need Crouch. Things would be a lot different for United without Ronaldo this season though. Take away all the goals he has scored and they'd be nowhere near top. They need a striker who can win balls in the air and often.

Great wins for Manchester United and Chelsea yesterday. Still can't see anyone catching United though when they're 5 clear. Even if they lose to Chelsea, they wont lose against Arsenal who have all but run out of steam.
What the hell was Mascherano doing though. What a prize idiot. Can't have any complaints about his sending off. He pushed and pushed and eventually got punished. I don't know anyone who didn't see it coming.

Typical close Mersyside derby. I think Everton can kiss goodbye to 4th place.
What the hell are Newcastle up too? They better not keep on winning.
And Gareth Southgate has "told his players they must alter their mentality if they are to challenge for honours in the Premier League."
Amazing. Only a miracle would see Middlesbrough winning anything.

It was a crazy match. When Ronaldo first scored people thought the flood gates were going to open, but they just didn't. Either team could have won it towards the end so a draw was probably the right result. Boro seem to be a boggie team of Uniteds, along with Everton, Blackburn and West Ham. Two of those teams United have still to play so it is going to be a close run in to the end of the season.
Mind you I fancy either Newcastle or Everton to take points off Chelsea.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Apr 10 2008, 01:45 PM
Yeah. It is going to be a really interesting run in. We have Tottenham next Away but we have a chance in the game for sure. If Arsenal beat Man United the title is blown right open again as Arsenal will be 3 points behind and Chelsea could go level.

To be fair I wasn't being entirely serious when I said that. I mean seeing Bolton go down would be strange after having gotten used to them in the Premier League, but look at the results after January when you lost Anelka. There are a lot of 0's there for you and a few 1 goals. Where did you epect your main set of goals to come from? You fought hard yesterday but I fear it's too late.
Posted by: Duncan Apr 13 2008, 09:40 PM
Fantastic result for United today. Arsenal deserved something from the game, but they paid the price for not taking their chances. As long as United can pull it off against West Ham and Blackburn they're all set.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Apr 13 2008, 09:42 PM
I think United have got it. It all comes down to the Chelsea game I think as I can see United maybe losing a point along the way. Then again Chelsea don't look great most the time. United deserve it this season.

Man Arsenal fans can be amazing sometimes. So many people are saying that Hargreaves free-kick wasn't that great and that poor goalkeeper position was to blame. Lehmann was in the same position as loads of keepers I've seen with a free-kick in that position. Hargreaves put it right in the corner and it was up and over the wall then down again in lightning speed. The keeper wouldn't have got there any day.

I can't disagree with you on this. Kevin Davies works hard. But. eh. he scored his fourth of the season against hammers so. I really hope we'll stay up. But honestly I don't think we can match either chelsea, spurs or boro in the coming matches.

I'm really glad they got destroyed as their goal difference was quite good before today. I hope Newcastle beat Sunderland as well by a fair few goals. I'm really worried about Boro. 5 points outside relegation with 3 games left.

I wanted Sunderland to win because I like Roy Keane, but at the same time I want Newcastle to build some momentum before they play Chelsea.
I reckon Boro will be fine. The last few games they've wasted a lot of chances, but they're still miles better than Birmingham and Fulham.
Also I heard a few rumours about Cristiano Ronaldo the other night. Apparently Liverpool scouted him for a year then when they were going to buy him the owners wouldn't release the funds. Arsenal also apparently turned down buying Ronaldo because Sporting were asking for £10m. Wenger is such a cheap bastard. It's made even more hilarious by the fact that Man Utd said they wouldn't even sell him for £100m.

What a load of crap Middlesbrough are. Being dragged into the relegation battle because we are absolutely useless it seems. Another loss against Portsmouth at home no doubt in 7 days. Too predictable.

Interesting set of results this weekend, with loads of goals.
I think Manchester United need a big result on Tuesday to re-ignite their season.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Apr 27 2008, 08:07 PM
I can't wait for the Tuesday and Wednesday games this week. Should be two great games. Hopefully it will be an all English final this year.

I'm going for a fantastic return to form for United tonight. With Ronaldo getting 2.
please
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Apr 29 2008, 12:50 PM
I'm going for United 2 - 1 Barcelona.
And I think Chelsea Liverpool will be 0-0
But after the weekend I could be wrong
Posted by: Duncan Apr 29 2008, 10:00 PM
Get in! United clearly deserved the win. Barca just seemed to want to pass it into the net sometimes.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Apr 29 2008, 10:07 PM
Yeah. United deserve to go through. An English final
Posted by: Duncan Apr 29 2008, 10:12 PM
Hopefully, after keeping Barca out for about 190 minutes, we can do the same in the final.
I'm going to tip Chelsea to go through tomorrow.

I want penalties tonight. Just so I can see the agonising look on the Chelsea and Scouse fans' faces.
Posted by: Duncan May 1 2008, 09:22 PM
Man, it was such a good game. Made better by the fact me and some mates placed bets on the score after 90 minutes. Me chosing 1-1 and winning six quid was good. Also an extremely loud scouse fan spilling his pint over himself seconds before Chelsea got the penalty.
Amazing.

There's an alternative Premier Table based on 'what if Lawro's predictions came true' - it has L'pool clear at the top by something like 20-30 points
not that Lawro's biased

Good victory for Chelsea today but I still think it will be a great end to the season for United rather than Chelsea. I can't see United losing points to Wigan. Wigan are save and couldn't care a less and I think Bruce will do United a favour

Man today it just sunk in really. Ryan Giggs is an absolute hero. He got so much criticism this season but at his age you cannot blame him. He has undoubtedly, for me, been one of the best players in the world. He was doing all the flicks, nutmegs, step overs before Ronaldo and Ronaldinho made them popular. He is a fantastic role model and when he finally retires it will be a sad sad day.

Okay, I'm gonna be an optimistic fool and say:
1. Manchester United
2. Chelsea
3. Arsenal
4. Tottenham
5. Liverpool
6. Everton
7. Manchester City
8. Portsmouth
17. West Bromwich
18. Fulham
19. Stoke
20. Hull
I extended the list a little.

As a Tottenham fan though, I have several clubs I wouldn't mind to see relegated
Posted by: Duncan Jul 13 2008, 11:28 PM
Top 5:
1. Manchester United
2. Arsenal
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
5. Portsmouth
Relegated:
Definitely Stoke

You guys have your top 5 all wrong!
We're gonna have a killer squad next year.
Gomes in goal, Modric as a playmaker, Giovani Dos Santos tearing open those defences, Gareth Bale doing the crossing, King getting fitter than ever (read: he's been training along with the team in pre-season, which is unusual...), and if we can keep hold of Keane and Berbatov, despite the rumors, and bring in a few more players... my, oh, my.

Man the bitching that's going on at the moment between clubs is pathetic. Chelsea should just be banned from buying players. Ronaldo should leave the ungrateful little boy. If Berbatov has any aspirations he should move to Man Utd. I've heard reports of spurs fans slagging off Keane because he may be leaving. They should be shot.
Then everything will be sorted.

If Berbatov has any aspirations he should move to Man Utd. I've heard reports of spurs fans slagging off Keane because he may be leaving. They should be shot.
Then everything will be sorted.
This will make the Berbatov case clear. From Daniel Levy, Chairman at Spurs:
There has been substantial speculation in respect of the futures of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, including press comment from both Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez. In response our Chairman, Daniel Levy has made the following statement:"Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players. It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.
"This comes after a series of events, dating back to last summer, which have shown Manchester United to be in breach of Premier League (PL) rules. As a result, we have today made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Manchester United. Benitez made similar comments in respect of Robbie recently and we made an official complaint to the PL about the conduct of Liverpool earlier this week.
"The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct.
"Our subsequent position has been severely compromised by both clubs making their intentions widely known and indeed making contact with the players and their agents, without the Club's permission.
"I have absolutely no wish to sell either player and to date we have not accepted any offer for either. However, when a player's head is turned and their commitment is absent, particularly when they occupy key positions such as that of striker, they become a negative influence in a team dressing room in which they were once a positive addition and influence. This is the situation we now have on our hands, with both Dimitar and Robbie having made it clear that they wish to leave for Manchester Utd and Liverpool respectively.
"Irrespective of the outcome and futures of Robbie and Dimitar, we are continuing to seek to bring in quality, talented players for the future, who want to play in a Spurs shirt."

Feel sorry for the City fans:
from one of their forums via the Spurs List / FTL...
"I'm sorry to say this, as a life long fan and - for the last few (for me at least) unforgettable months - employee, MCFC as we know it is finished. Here are the FACTS, for those who really want to know. Thaksin is, as of midlnight 10th August, 2008, an international fugitive. He now has to be found guilty of corruption in Thailand in his absense, offering no defence. Extradition requests will surely follow. The PL will then have to find him short of the fit and proper ownership rules (and believe me, the pressure for that from fellow 'members' has been growing since June). Thaksin is trying to palm off City onto whoever will now take it, an insolvent mess of a business, completely incapable of sustaining itself. The truth is that the only interested party (until recently) - Wardle - is not now able to bail City out now , he cant come close on his own and no partners have been found. The wage bioll and committments due on the last 2 years' transfers have spiralled out of control. The Corluka affair is the last straw - I personally worked on the deal and can assure anyone interested that he has already been transferred to Spurs. Spurs have this evening started legal action, and he will be barred from playing for City following an injunction in the courts tomorrow. Personally I expect Hughes to then resign on principal (he has no choice now, he is on record as saying that he wilol have final say on all transfers). Many wont believe any of this, but a few will. I am very close to this situation (readers will never know who I am or how close - a few would know my name but it isnt appropriate to for me to come 'out') - trust me, I am close enough to know what has happeneded in the last fortnight, I am pissed off with it (as a fan, and as someone who has worked hard for the club durinig the ast 18 months or so) and it must be said, a little drunk. I am posting this message on a few sites - apologies for those that keep reading it, but I want City fans to know what is happening. The sad truth is we are finished, and that as a result, the PL will be facing its biggest challenge since inception within 2 weeks of now."

Yeah. It's great to have it back. And to start with a win for the first time in 8 years felt great. We played really well and we should have been winners 3-1 if it wasn't for a silly decision to disallow a goal. Anyway we are 6th at the minute which suits me fine. 6 points and it could have been 9 if we didn't score an own goal and let in a 94th minute goal against Liverpool

Football is very international now
Half of the coaches here in Norway are Swedish, and alot of the players on my hometeam are from Sweden, Iceland or some African country.
I don't mind it though, since they all play kickass.. Or atleast for 15 minutes before they loose interest and just slouches around for the rest of the game...

Newcastle are complete idiots. Why sack a manager who did a brilliant job last season of saving a sinking club. Because he admitted he couldn't break the top 4? No surprise there. Just madness.
Glad to see Berbatov at United. Another bit of good business from Ferguson. Getting Spurs to drop the case as well was excellent.
Robinho to Man City is hilarious for several reasons. Mainly because it will annoy Chelsea. But also I really don't see him doing that well there. Feel sorry for Wright-Phillips as well. He's just joined the new Chelsea. Typical buyers who don't really know much about football. Come straight in and want all the big names. Half of them I can't see how they would have fit in at Man City.
Also Spurs are hilarious. Linked with so many players and so few of them came off. With only Campbell, Bent, and Pavlyuchenko upfront you're going to struggle a bit. Another mid table finish it is then.
Last night was extremely entertaining.

I think lower than mid table for Spurs. I think they will be down the bottom battling away. The Keegan thing is ridiculous and I think Robinho just went to Man City because he could hardly keep playing for Real Madrid and Real Madrid wouldn't agree to a deal with Chelsea.

I heard that Chelsea just never matched Real's value of Robinho. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Robinho is off somewhere else in January.
Someone has just informed me that this is all over sky sports news:
"The new owner(s) just said they are going to bid £135m for Cristiano Ronaldo, and also bid for Torres and Fabregas and they plan to bring in 18 players in January. "
Way to be completely clueless.

haha. I thought they said in their first interview that they were going to be sensible and bring only the players they need to the club
Yeah right

It's just so annoying all these big money companies coming in and trying to buy success. They seem to head straight for the big names regardless of if they'd fit in the team. Evidence can be seen at Chelsea (who admittedly now are spending rather wisely compared to Abramovich's first season in charge). Now obviously just because City want to bid for all these players doesn't mean they'll get them but it's just the cheek of it. I mean putting in a bid for Ronaldo is just staggering. It just shows the ignorance and lack of football knowledge they possess. I mean Ronaldo from Utd to City would cause the biggest uproar from both clubs fans. I can't see United fans wanting him to leave and I can't see City fans wanting him. Plus by buying big straight away it completely ruins the academy process and is a massive hinderence for upcoming international talent. At least clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal have younger stars coming through the ranks (Anderson, Campbell, Nasri, Wallcott) whereas Manchester City are skipping this and aiming too high too quickly.

A 6 match ban is seriously laughable. For beating a fellow team mate up so severely you get a 6 match man. That is seriously messed up.
He needed a year ban so he actually realises he can't do what he likes and he needs to seriously sort his life out. 6 match ban is nothing.

"Slobodan Rajkovic gets a suspension of a year after spitting at ref on the Olympics. The leftback of Twente who is on loan from Chelsea is not only suspended for international games but as wel for club games."
That's a little over the top though.
Posted by: Duncan Sep 5 2008, 07:08 PM
True it a little OTT but spitting is disgraceful so I'm not going to feel sorry for him. Joey Barton though is just a horrible and violent person.
Posted by: Caelumamittendum Sep 5 2008, 07:26 PM
No doubt he shouldn't have done it. But 1 year suspension in both national and club side may ruin his career.

It's so painful watching England that I'm not watching them tomorrow. I'm going to see Nottinghamshire CCC play Lancashire CCC in the cricket evening game.
I can't wait for the Premiership this Saturday. We have Portsmouth away and I fancy our chances.
Posted by: Duncan Sep 9 2008, 10:37 PM
I'll be watching the game tomorrow purely because I'll be at the pub and therefore in the likely event it turns out to be rubbish I can just speak to my friends and ignore the game.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/robborobson/2008/09/england_doesnt_expect.html - This pretty much sums up England at the moment. If you can get past the horrible 'laddish' journalism, read it.

I wasn't expecting that. We haven't played that well in a very long time. I only saw the highlights as I was at the cricket. Notts lost by 1 run on the final ball. Was an awesome match. Bring on the Premiership weekend

I know it was amazing. I haven't got in to an England like that for a long long time. It shows how good we can be when no one panics. Good to see Rooney playing well for England again. But yes I can't wait for the Premiership this weekend. I'm going to be in France but I'll be on my Mum's computer updating 606.

Some big games as well. I'm interested in seeing Chelsea - Man City highlights of Robinho and is it Man United - Liverpool this weekend?
I'm a bit annoyed as I can't pay too much attention tomorrow as my mates coming up to Nottingham who I haven't seen in 2 years and we are seeing Meshuggah but I will still keep updated on the Boro score. I couldn't be arsed going to Portsmouth
Posted by: Duncan Sep 11 2008, 05:12 PM
Aye you don't want to go to Portsmouth anyway; it's a horrible place. Manchester United vs Liverpool should be a good game. Mainly because the Scouse will be missing Gerrard and Torres so will probably lack direction. I saw outside a betting shop that 2-0 to United with Berbatov as first scorer returned about £300 when you put on a tenner. If I was a gambling man I'd be half tempted.

I hate football so much. Bring back internationals.
Saying that, Carragher thinks this win can help Liverpool launch a title challenge. At least something cheered me up.
Looking forward to City Chelsea. Come on Robinho!

This weekend was pretty mad for football.
The Chelsea game was ridiculous for so many reasons. Why oh why did Manchester United just seem to sit back after scoring? Had they taken the game to Chelsea they could have easily come away with three points. The build up to the first goal was terrific. They had so many other chances they should have buried. The sooner Wayne Rooney finds his aim the better. Chelsea dominated the second half and I thought Rio Ferdinand did well in containing them. Not to mention the fact he was clearly pushed in the box right before the Chelsea game. But hey, to come away from Stamford Bridge with a point isn't bad. In terms of the yellow cards 7 was completely ridiculous. You can't book someone for saying something like "(Edit - Duncan see the new guidelines before posting*ing out swear words is no lnger permitted - Tony) ref, that's not a foul", especially in a heated game like this. It's merely frustration and not 'disrespecting' the referee. The fact that only one yellow card was handed out to Chelsea is completely laughable. Ronaldo was taken out with an awful challenge on the edge of the box which could have easily been a red. Riley had a really really bad game.
Manchester City was incredible yesterday though. So clinical in front of goal. It did help that Portsmouth's defence have the pace of a snail, and it appears the same level of awareness. Robinho was a delight to watch, especially when he took it past a flailing David James. Still though I find it hard to believe they can keep that level of performance up week to week. I'd like to see Robinho try any of those tricks against defenders like Vidic or Terry. He'd most probably get completely clattered.
My biggest smile of the weekend however came from Liverpool. It just shows what a joke of a club they are how they can't beat Stoke at home. Really cheered me up that did.
Tottenham looked the worst side in the Premiership at the moment. Bentley seems to be none existent on the pitch, and I'm starting to wonder if Spurs should have even bought him. Lennon seemed to be much more affective on the wings. Bent needs to start scoring more. One because he's in my fantasy team, and two because I can't see where else Tottenham's goals are going to come from.
Newcastle were also poor, but no change there.
Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Sep 22 2008, 10:34 AM
We were annoying. Controlled the game all the way through, got a penalty and then we missed it which gave them an obvious confidence boost for them to score and for us to let another in whilst trying to get an equaliser. We need more confidence infront of goal. We are playing well across the field. Just need the final finish. Tuncay being injured really doesn't help us either. Lets hope we can keep our 100% home record going this weekend against West Brom.
I agree Man City were awesome and if they keep playing like that they will definitely finish in the top 5. Probably 5th but possibly even 4th if they are lucky. Liverpool don't look like a top 4 side.
Posted by: Duncan Sep 23 2008, 02:12 PM
Yeah Boro were a bit unlucky. 2 late goals should really have been avoided. I'm still pleased for Sunderland though.
Also, regarding the amazing Reading goal against Watford at the weekend. I don't agree with the main point of this post on 606 but it didn't half make me chuckle:
QUOTE (Man on 606)

Villa 3 Black Cats 1
Everton 6 Liverpool 10

Shocking penalty decision. Can't see why Ronaldo was being blamed though. He didn't dive, just was tripped up. Tackle was fair but what you gonna do? No Man Utd player appealed for the spot kick and it didn't seem like Ronaldo celebrated much either.
Rooney's finish was class though.
