Pardon me for not asking this on the instructor board...instructor Lucio didnt look to be active since 2011, so I figured to ask here.

At the very beginning of this solo, Lucio does that classic sort of run. Check the first thing he does on the "main" section of the lesson.

What is this called?

It looks like he just does a quick rake and then plucks the e string with a high note fretted and slides it down. Is that accurate?

Hi mate! yeah, you are right, I think that the correct way of calling it is raking with the addition of some noise sliding with the left hand. The rake is done doing a sweep through the 6 strings muting them with your left hand. It's not something that must be very precise, it's just used as an effect.

Seems like Gab is right. I watched it a few times and it looks like (in a simple words)

1. Make a sweep (upstroke) on the muted strings - from high E to low E
2. Then hit (downstroke) 2 or 3 low strings and do the slide with Your left hand. It has to be wide and quick slide so the notes You start with doesn't matter. Make shure to grab it somewhere around 12th fret

I think Darius explained things very well - my suggestion is to try and apply his advice and then make a little movie with the webcam with this action only - we can help out even better if you show us your work, deal?
