Impressive work! This is a very tricky bit to play and you are making very good progres. It's a lot to juggle all at once. The picking, muting string skipping, Your playing it pretty darn well at this stage and the pace is very smooth. I think you are pretty close to nailing it. Just a bit more work. Keep it up!

Todd

Thanks! I think what I need now is muscle memory and motivation. :-D

We could all use a bit more motivation imho smile.gif there is always a need for that. if only we could bottle it and sell/buy it eh? The repetition will provide the muscle memory portion of things. You've got this lick down from the look of it, just needs to rep through it a bit until its' almost second nature. Super awesome job on learning it and playing it this well!

Todd's always positive - it's really great for motivation!

I'd say you're nearly there too. A bit of practice and then you're nailing it!

Its sometimes good to take a bit of a break imho smile.gif It allows the brain some time to process. I've had this help me many times. Simply putting it away and coming back to it can really make a huge difference. Your time spent away could be the key that unlocks it!!!

Onwards! smile.gif

I usually feel I come back better after a break - maybe not in the beginning technique wise, but it's like riding a bike, you get back up to speed again soon. But I come back with new ideas in improvisation and a fresh mind and new phrases.

Very well said. Just having a bit of a break can really inspire one to come back with new ideas.

I finally did!

I tried a few of the string skipping exercises, and it's super obvious that my problem is with my picking hand. I don't have any real problems with hitting the right frets, but boy do I hit the wrong strings. I'll try doing them with a bit more focus and see if it will help over time. 5 string skip is... pretty consistently inconsistent I'd say. And in the song it's just one skip. Just like for you, it's 100% the second pattern that challenging. First pattern is fine.

It gets better when I've done it for a bit, but then I feel I'm back where I was when I start a new practice session. I'm hoping that the exercises will help over time. I think I picked them up from the video.

what i learned, exercises, slow the song down, practices, and take breaks and make it fun to learn smile.gif also i looked up some tabs for the song and watching the way others finger the lick gave me some ideas on other ways to finger it, ha, i just started playing it due to this thread, its a bit tricky for sure, i will take it in little bits at a time, sooner or later i will get it down, added it to the list of songs i want to learn...also grabbed a copy of the string skipping exercise and took a gander at it, will work on that as well. nicely done smile.gif

Yeah, the second one was the struggle. I was trying to break it down a bit in the video for myself. I'm sure you're very nearly there!

And yes, the 5 string skip is awkward! I like the exercise as it kinda runs through different kinda skips, groupings and strings. Of course you could move the pattern to other strings too.
