Our new mastering desk/console arrived yesterday. The desk surface is 4 sides of an octagon and is bout 2 meters in length. The hardware sits in 3 main unit racks which have front panels that slope at a 30 degrees. Once we're happy with the final positioning of the three main ones they'll be recessed in to the desk rather than siting up on the surface. The desk surface is lower than a standard desk and the pc scree sits at the side of the 4th side'. The main idea is to have the hardware directly in front of the engineer and so easily to hand whilst reducing the amount in the path of the monitors.

We've yet to agree which bit of hardware goes where though I'm starting to favour having the central console housing the router (not in pic) plus the Orpheus AD/DA. The eqs and comp would then go in to the two others in front of the engineer and the remaining hardware (Eventide reverb, Clariphonic, Neve etc) in to a rack below the desk.

We're still installing it and there some tyding up, tyding away and some minor changes to be done but here are a few photos of it in situ:

Awesome smile.gif

I guess best is to place whatever you use most to the center so you won't turn your head around much and keep the stereo image.

Seriously though that looks badass I'd love to play with gear like that, don't know what most of it even does but I'm sure it's pretty awesome.
