GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ New Acoustic ?

Posted by: Chris May 29 2008, 10:19 PM

Hi. Its my birthday in a few weeks and I'm thinking about asking for an acoustic guitar.

Firstly, I'm not sure whether I should get an electro one or a regular acoustic.

Secondly, I'm not sure which brands are more renound and 'better' for acoustic guitars.

And thirdly, I'm not sure how the price varies with the quality of guitar you can buy.

My budget is about 250 UK. I can push higher if I need to though. Can anybody help me with my confusion? Thanks, Chris

Well Chris, you've got a little more budgeted than the price of this guitar but I love it. I bought this a week or two ago so not alot of time with it but the time I have spent, I recomend it. It's an Ovation CC24 mid bowl. Has built in tuner and the pre-amp really sings. 299 US new.

Heres a link of some photaos I put up when I got it.

I recently got a Big Baby made by Taylor. In addition I have an expensive Yamaha semiacoustic and a pretty expensice classical nylonstring. I only play the Big Baby now.
The Big Baby is the best acoustic in that price range. It is not finished tough. This leeds to an really expressive and full tone. Unlike any other in that class. If you compare the sound, it can compete with really expensive costum acoustics. The only thing is that the lower frequencies are a little bit weak. It's a little smaller than "fullsized" acoustics but suprisingly loud. Much louder than my Yamaha. Given the price this is the greatest acoustic I ever played.

I recommend Ovation or Takamine in that price range. Generally if you push over the 500e limit it will be a quality guitar that you can use form most situations, even some studio background work.

My acoustic costs £1400 in UK lol but it really is stunning and it just has people in awe when they see it lol but it's slightly out of range biggrin.gif Get a Takamine in that price range I'd say or best bet is go down to your local music shop and try out some acoustic that grab your eye. Get something that is right for you smile.gif

thanks for the replies guys.
Iv been looking at some Ibanez electro-acoustics.
How are Ibanez usually portrayed? are they renound for acoustics...or is it a hit and miss with them? thanks. Most their guitars are in my price range of about £250 and they look quite good. Havn't actually had a go on any yet. The AW electros look quite good.... thanks
