Posted by: Guitarist16 Jun 9 2008, 10:54 PM

hey gmcers I'm having trouble with a solo for a song i have been working on. The chords for the verse are A minor C A minor E minor. its more of a jazz/ blues song. I don't really want to use the A minor scale or E minor scale, but im open to ideas about what scales or arpeggios i should use would be great. Thanks alot!

your fellow guitarist,
Alex

E phrygian, F lydian, B dim arpeggio, C ionian of course. C major pentatonics, use chromatic runs, make a short turn into A harmonic minor with C dim 7 arpeggio and E dominant 7 chord perhaps?

this is what I can come up with without actually hearing the backing. Hope it helps.

oh, my bad, not C dim 7. C aug will work. D dim 7 would work I think (in a harmonic minor).

Also Aminor blues scale would be nice occasionally smile.gif

All of these chords fit perfectly into the A minor scale so unfortunately you cant "stray" away from the A minor a lot.

Am blues is nice and A dorian also, and if you re going to use A harmonic minor remember not to use it over the Em chord(because A harmonic minor has a G # and Em has a normal G so that semitone might sound a bit off)
If I may say an opinion, for sounding a bit more jazzy try changing you Am chords to a Am7 http://www.8notes.com/guitar_chord_chart/Am7.asp (there you can choose to play Dorian, a blues, natural etc)
change your C to Cmaj7 http://www.8notes.com/guitar_chord_chart/Cmaj7.asp (C Lydian would be nice) and for diversity you can try and play the E7 instead of Em,make a nice run or lick in Am harmonic minor and finish in A Dorian
