GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Need A Little Help - Choose Guitar

Posted by: Batista Jul 13 2007, 04:23 PM

Hey guys!

First of all, I wanted to say that I am new here, and that I admire the work Kristofer especially, but all of the other guitar teachers are putting down in this site. First I just lurked around and watched the free stuff and learned actually a lot in just a couple of days, just by watching the free lessons on this site, so then i thought: "If I can learn all that in a few days with a few videos, why not join the full site and get hundreds of video lessons?" So now I'm here.

But the reason I'm posting here, is because I am in some sort of dilemma. I'm looking for a new guitar since I was stupid enough to buy a cheap crap-guitar (Cruiser ST-200/3TS or something like that), and now, when I finally understood that, I'm out for something better. I have searched through every web-shop I know of to find a guitar that I think suits me, and my bankcard.

The two I ended up with are the following (Warning: Norwegian text):

http://www.idmusikk.no/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1213 - $545
http://www.idmusikk.no/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2075 - $537

I'm not going to buy the guitars online, but I wanted to know your opinion, since the guys in the local shop sucks at helping people find the right guitars dry.gif

Wich of those guitars would you guys prefer? I have played since late March/early April this year. I am also open for other suggestions, but around the price range of $450-$600. The music style I play is usually Rock, metal and a little bit more punk influent music - everything from Black Sabbath to AFI with other words.

Thanks for all answers!
See ya!

I belive both guitars are equally good but it comes down to two choices.

* If you plan on using the tremolo you have to go with the Ibanez since the Jackson is through body.

* The Jackson has 24 frets, the Ibanez has 22. And I'm guessing the Jackson is a bit brighter since it's made out of adler, nice for hard rock :-)

Well, as far as I know I ain't going to use the tremolo much, but on the other side it is good to have just in case.

But if i went for sound, and not for the tremolo you would have chosen the Jackson?

Between the two I would have chosen the Jackson and played some hard rock and heavy metal with it :-)

Some other options from the same site

http://www.idmusikk.no/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11_104&products_id=2428 also one in black for 500 NOK more
http://www.idmusikk.no/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11_104&products_id=2439 I've got a RG320 and as far as I'm concerned I'm fine with it. It's a good inexpensive guitar, simple as that
http://www.idmusikk.no/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_11_207&products_id=2031 This is as good as it gets. A serious rocker!!! Bright sounding. I was close to buying this one but went for Ibanez instead since it sounded more "modern" (don't know how to explain it). I still want this one though. Dunno if it fits your budget but it's plenty of guitar for little money.

That Jackson DK2M has great pickups. The Ibanez models have pickups that are good but you might wanna upgrade sooner or later, I for one would like to put a couple of DiMarzio's in my RG320.

If you wanna save a buck and mail order one you may find one cheaper http://www.musicstore.de

I have actually looked a lot on the Jackson DK2M, and I have always loved white guitars, so maby I will save for that one, or one of the others. One thing is sure, I will look closely on all of them before I decide, so thanks man.

Still open for other people's opinions too=)
