This seems like the perfect solution to my recording need, aside from the unit and a computer. What else will I need to record? Is a DAW required? Will audicity work?

Also, how do you guys record the track and video simultaneously? Do you mix the two feeds together or is there a program that starts the video recording at the same time as the audio?

a DAW is required yes, and I gues Audicity would work, although I'm not sure, because I don't know that program wink.gif

You'll need some type of DAW for sure.

I use Sonar, but there are a lot of good ones out there, some even for free. I've heard that Reaper is pretty good.

For video and audio, I usually end up mixing the audio in the DAW, then importing it into Sony Vegas as a separate step. Synch'ing the video and audio is a little tricky sometimes. I just find the exact frame where the guitar strings first move and then line up the first audio from the guitar to that point.

I use Reaper as DAW (pretty cheap & free to try), and windows movie maker (comes with windows) to mix the sound & video. Works fine smile.gif

I'm on a Mac so I use GarageBand for recording audio and I sync the video with Final Cut.

I don't find it hard to synch you have to use some markers on the first frame that you ear the audio (on both track) and then you just mute the sound of your camera.

As the cheapest and proven option I recommend Reaper as DAW (for audio recording), and Vegas Movie Studio 9 (for video capturing). Reaper is free (to evaluate), and Vegas MS is around 50$ which is a bargain.

Both programs work well, and will work with POD GX. And yes, you should be able to record both audio from guitar directly and video at the same time, and then process both things and mix them together in Vegas on separate tracks. This is not that hard as it may seem tho.

Sonar can be good, Reaper is free,

if you can get your hands on a Protools or Nuendo, those are really pro.

but yes, you need the software to lay down the tracks and mix them
