Sitting in an open front bar in South Of France this evening, big police van slowly drove by , then armed soldiers with machine guns in hand walked by. My wife was very worried, I didn't think they looked "on a mission", more of a presence on the street but still very worrying.
We're still having a great time though. Just got to get on with it and not let them grind the western world down.
Cheers folks

It took me a while to get used to the army escorting the guys who collect the money from the banks here in Ireland, it's a little unnerving when you aren't used to it and wonder what's going on

My wife was convinced there was an army helicopter hovering over our hotel in the middle of the night, I said it was a Harley Davidson waiting at the traffic lights, then it revved up and went. Her mind plays tricks with her when she's worried.
There was a festival in the old town last night, I think they were just patrolling to show a presence to make people feel safer, sometimes it makes people feel uneasy.
Cheers

UPDATE :
No news of any trouble in town, seems it was just to have a military presence. Using the great British skill of laughing in the face of adversity I have now renamed Harleys as Harleycopters. It's made my wife smile and chilled her a little bit smile.gif

I remember going to a course at a place here in Denmark, right after some attack here, and there were police with machine guns too surrounding a place nearby. Kinda scary.

UPDATE :
We were eating in the main square this evening, six armed soldiers walked through, luckily they were behind my wife. I managed to distract her to look at a menu on the wall near us. They walked to the end of the square and split up, some walking towards the bar we were in last night ams others going elsewhere. They returned after trem minutes and I managed to distract my wife again. It really does appear to be a presence on the street more than anything else but she would be very worried if she saw them.
I won't tell her about them but if she spots some and starts to worry i will say they were on patrol the other night. All is safe.
Cheers folks

Monaco was great as always. I'm sure the yachts in the marina could be sold for enough money to end world poverty for ever until the politicians found a way to get their dirty hands on the money.
If you like your cars, and I do, every kind of exotica is here, Outside Casino De Monte Carlo, six brand new Rolls Royces, a row of Bentley Continental GTs, a few Ferraris of various types ams some others. Last time there was one THESE
One of the private yachts was the biggest non commercial boats I've ever seen.
Pics when i get back if you're interested.

Thanks Todd,

Don't know if you saw THIS but we saw more today so I told her about last night and explained that they aren't here because something is actually about to happen but more because they need a presence on the street to try and prevent anything happening and that we will see them daily so don't panic just because you see them. She seems a little more settled. Obviously we're not 100% relaxed unless we're in the hotel but she won't panic now if she sees them. It was as though she thought they were looking for someone with a gun or bomb before.

Thanks for your concern folks.

Hi Phil

France, Belgium, Germany and other countries are in a state of high alert, which means : soldiers and more "heavy armed" police in the streets. I never saw soldiers in my city before but after a year of their presence, I kinda got used to them. Army trucks are driving on our highways and crowdy places are always garded. It's not what you want to see on vacation though !!
I hope you and your wife can go on and enjoy your holliday without worrying about all this too much.

Take care.

I remember going to London with my family right after the attack back in...2004 (I think?). We were kinda worried at first, but it turned out to be alright in the end.

I hope you're having a good time despite of it all.
