GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Where To Place The List?

Hi GMCers,

I'm playing guitar for 2 years and I've ever placed the wrist on the bridge when I play everything. Is it right?

I use a stratocaster and I've just noticed the other guitars have a different structure and so It would be harder to play whitout leaving my wrist lying somewhere.

Do you know what I mean?

I agree to what Victor says here, however our good ole' Guthrie says that there shall be a "resting point" for the hand, hence by moving the hand in different positions and angles - different tones can be obtained as well as issues like tapping, harmonics etc. What imo. is most important is that the wrist is not "locked" in any way - then it would be harder to move the hand in order to pick different strings. I think its a matter of the situation - some playing requires that the wrist/arm is lifted from the body - otherwise I don't think it really matters. If the trem on a strat is set up properly, You can as well rest the hand on it.

When playing palm muting you have to be resting on the strings (near the bridge) right?

It's OK to have a resting point on the brigde, but not all the time. Sometimes hand just has to go from the bridge in order to achieve the movement needed for specific technique. But, if you keep it often there, then it's OK I guess, as long as you feel comfortable with it and all I play Strat too, and every time I move to different type of guitar, it takes a bit of time for hands to adapt, but after that it's OK.
