Hey GMC! I'm hoping to connect with anyone out there who's taken a break from guitar for a few years as I have. I really want to get back into playing - but when I pick up my guitar, I'm so rusty - and I find it hard to just enjoy playing.
What should I do for a fresh start, to get inspired to play more? I simply don't have the hours of free time I did back in college when I'd play 2-3 hours a day. Please help me find that spark, or how you re-discovered it
I have such great memories of this website - thank you Kris and company
Welcome back Brandon,
I'm sure if you scoot over to the REC zone and have a look, you will get inspired, or look at some of Gab's mentoring threads in the instructors section and Todd's Bootcamp too. You may find https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=57587 inspiring, I know I did.
Looking forward to following your journey

Hi Brandon! Welcome back!
At this point, it's very important to keep motivation so I would start with stuff that you really enjoy practising / playing. I have open slots at my mentoring program so feel free to contact me if you'd like to receive some help designing your guitar plans or just use the thread to share your progress and discuss about what to work.
Enjoy the journey!
Welcome Back!! Glad to have ya!! You are more than welcome to join my bootcamp for more fun and join gabe too one, the other, or both, or neither really, it's all up to you man. Just do whatever seems fun at this point. You have limited time to play so make it as fun as it can be and you will notice that you play more and find excuses not to play just a bit less. In the end, that's what it comes down to. Finding a reason to pickup the axe, and finding a way to make it fun enough to repeat the process
If that means playing cover tunes, great! if it means, doing REC or collabs, or bootcamp, so much the better, you just gotta find what makes it worth it for you so that you don't just put it down. That one thing is what keeps folks from becoming the players they want to be and ending the guy that says "Yeah, I wish I learned to play an instrument" don't be that guy Play!

Being rusty is normal. How strange would it be if we could have a long break and then play as if we practised every day? For me watching lessons that I like is inspiring. Considering that with diligence you will be able to play those lessons one day is motivational enough!;)
Of course it is a difficult psychological subject, some people like only stuff that is beyond their skill level, but thankfully I am not one of them. There are tons of lvl 3 lessons that sound so nice on GMC. So from the very beginning we can learn stuff that is enjoyable to hear/play.
Thanks guys. I'm going to ease back into some level 3 lessons and just take it slow. GMC still has a special place in my heart! Keep rockin!
