GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ England 2 Croatia 3

Posted by: Smells Nov 22 2007, 11:36 AM

anyone else watch this abismal display of Englands great footballing talents? dry.gif

Congrats to Croatia, I thought they played great on a terrible Wembley pitch and a lousy English evening in the rain.

Steve Mclaren had said in an interview a couple of days ago that he needed to put out his most experienced players in order to get the result .... so .. why on earth did he play Carson in goal whos only played a handful of a games for England in the past, nothing recent!! The Lampard/Gerrad debate has been going on forever, Sven and Mclaren have both tried it and it just doesnt work with them playing together, our best results have come without Lampard playing! good grief!
Why on earth did he wait till half time to change it around after going 2-0 down in the first 12 mins????

Well after that David Beckham and Peter Crouch came to the rescue in the second half it was still pretty obvious that Croatia would get another, and really deserved to win with a much greater margin, 5-2 or even 6-2 would have been a fairer result!

The best result out of this is that England will hopefully get a new Manager horaah!! mad.gif

overpaid ,over rated ,underwhelming ,if they were paid by results they would owe a lot of money too the fans hard too believe they get paid more in two or three onths than most people earn in a lifetime,

+1 m8, couldnt agree more, the money involved in football now is just crazy, and its the poor disappointed fans that suffer

I think I read "unemployed" stamped in McClarens forehead yesterday.

Too bad really, I always enjoy to watch Englan. Felt a bit sorry for the young goalie but it seems McClaren gets all the blame.

weird thing was they clamed he was 20 odd years old but he looked about 40/45 years old! He must have had a hard life...( and judging by his performance last night thats probably true..)

Players did not perform for sure last night, however the headcoach has to take the rap, playing systems etc that English players just arnt used to playing, on such a vital game for them, totally gutted here sad.gif

He was Svens sidekick in his day, it was obvious we where going to get just more of the same, I hope we get a decent foreign coach next, kick some backsides

The players haven't been performing for months/years Smells - I'd say it goes back long before McClaren. Noticed that yet again the FA - who of course appointed McClaren only 18 months ago - are pretty much dumping all the blame on him.

McClaren's team choice was poor and he doesn't seem able to motivate them. BUT what about the FA's ability and responsibilities to the national game and the England Squad? Why can't they seem to pick a manager and keep him/her for more then a few years? Why didn't they work with and develop McClaren? Why do they structure the finances of the leagues so as to favour only a very small minority of teams in a vastly disproportionate manner? I could go on like this for ages but I'll stop now as it's pointless as the FA Board don't listen anyway mad.gif sad.gif wink.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

Totally agree Tony, our players have under performed for a long time, been reading on the BBC website and pretty much the same is said there, I dont believe Mclaren was the right man for the job in the first place imo, we need a bloomin good shake up starting with the players and going right up to the top of the F.A

Strange thing is I`m not a huge football fan to be honest, I follow it a little as the drivers at work here are into it and so I stay in touch with whats going on so I can converse with them, however I follow our national team in the vein hope that one day hopefully in my lifetime the England football team will produce something! sad.gif tongue.gif ohmy.gif laugh.gif I wont hold me breath
Cheers
Disappointed of Kent laugh.gif

Surprised to hear that actually, every time theres an england match on the tv up here everyone gathers around to support the opponent, tis a national past-time, as well as of course, deep fried mars bars laugh.gif

Heh, just friendly competition I suppose. smile.gif

What really annoyed me though, was that the England match was shown on the BBC, every time theres a Scotland match its always on Sky! Its shocking, why should we have to pay to watch our football team when it should be shown on national tele! sad.gif

(I ended up watching an internet stream from some German channel instead, 400x400 of glorious pixelated action tongue.gif)

I feel more sorry for Scotland as they played well and deserved to go through. England - well pfff - really got what they deserved in the end I suppose. Bit like RoI (my team Smells - I'm not an England fan wink.gif ) we didn't deserve anything either sad.gif .

Looking on the bright side the entire UK and Republic can now all look forward to Linaker, Hanson, Shearer, Barnes et al astounding us with their wit, wisdom and amazing insights about the teams that did qualify- not tongue.gif .

well...sven göran ericsson leaves and England doesn't make it through the qualifiers, that says it all ;D he is the man!
