Really mixed feelings about this recording... On one hand it's so much better than one I made a couple of weeks ago, on the other hand all I can here is the mistakes (bends out of tune, missed notes etc.)

I think my real problem is inconsistency and the transitions between different parts of the song. I don't have much time to practice right now, usually just lunchtime every other day at work. If I'm recording, no time to warm up, just press rec and go :-). Maybe when the kids grow up haha :-).

It's also interested how you move your own frame of reference. When I first picked up this song into my covers-to-learn list I thought I'd never ever learn to play it. Now I'm all like "it's just a Maiden song, how can I still be making mistakes?"

Yeah, I'm mostly posting this for reference - so I can compare it with when I've recorded a version I'm happy with :-)

Hey mate smile.gif Overall this is good work - there are some slight tempo issues and the guitar seems to be either a bit out of tune on the lead melodies either you're not bending up to pitch - just give yourself more time and focus on the things which can be improved, as I've noticed you already know the moments in which this take isn't spot on wink.gif

The bends in the intro are my own doing I'm afraid :-). I'm going to do a new take later on (after the solo assignment) with one of my regular guitars, not the cheap-ass strat I keep at work.

Great choice for a cover! I used to play many Maiden's song and it's a great training, because you practice real music, so this is helpful and entertained. Don't worry about mistakes, keep on playing this song 2 or 3 times every day and start working on other songs. After some practice you will start to feel like if the song is yours and everything will be easier to be played.

Hey, one of my fav. Maiden tracks. smile.gif Sounds good to me! Its not easy to getting something totally down when not warmed up. Especially with doubling rhythm tracks.

Good call DG - doubling rhythm tracks is always a part of recording that requires attention - finishing the phrases on time, accentuation in the same spots, stuff like that.

Even though at this point, doing this with the guitar comes natural, I am having trouble doing it when recording vocals - somehow, it's not always like I want it to - I am focusing on paying attention to various landmarks dictated by the passage I am recording over (bars, stops, chord changes - stuff like that) and it keeps getting better and better, it's just that it's not natural yet, like it is with the guitar.
