Hey guys,

Here is my progress on the first half of the Ian Bushell Sweep Lesson. I'm sure you guys all know the one I'm talking about. For the most part it is there, but the screws need to be a bit tighter, but this is the progress and here is where I am at. Also, my guitar is tuned a whole step down from his video.

Looking for tips, sorry my picking hand isn't in the video, I need to get a tripod. If you can tell anything from the fretting hand or your ear, jlmk.

Cheers guys!

Can you upload it to youtube and insert it here as an embed? Just click INSERT SPECIAL ITEM when making a post and you can see the instructions from there. That way folks don't have to download a file before viewing. It's not a rule, just a good way of going about things as it makes viewing easier and doesn't require a wait for a download and such.

Thanks!! I'd say you are well on your way. First off, just noticing your vibrato technique on the first note is quite good. Then you launch in to the tricky bits and do quite well. Hand synch seems good, however I can't see your picking hand very well so it's tough to say much about the actual Sweep Picking as such. Your fingerings of the arps looks very clean though.

One thing in particular, is there a digital delay on the guitar signal during recording? I'd swear that I hear one. It could be just some issue with my playback, but if you are using FX (delay/reverb/etc.) I'd say kill ALL of it except for just enough distortion/gain to make the lick work. FX can really bury the bits that need the most attention.

But overall, It sure looks like you are ready to go for a rec take smile.gif Just get that other hand in camera frame and make sure not to use any extra fx. smile.gif

Hey Todd, good point about the delay and reverb. I practice with it clean as if it was like a dry rhythm patch, but to be honest I probably just got carried away (I love me some verb and delay) with it on and forgot to turn it off for the tracking. But I will keep in mind for my general solo patch to have it lower in the mix because there is no reason for it to be up so loud where it gets in the way of what I'm playing.

Thanks for the feed back! Next video will be of better quality, and I'll try to get the playing a bit tighter as well!

For solo work delay/reverb is fine smile.gif For REC work id say turn both completely OFF. We need to hear whats being played so anything that distracts from that is not so hot. So yeah, like a dry rythm patch with just enough dist. Not to much or its tough to tell what's going on. Just for reference smile.gif

Also, really need to see that picking hand as you are doing "sweep picking" in rec we would need to see the actual picking. But these are small production details like I mentioned, your playing seems like it's ready to try the rec right now smile.gif
