That a well set up modern 2 point tremelo with locking tuners and a well cut nut can't?

In short, nothing!
The only two factors to consider are:-
1) the quality of the Tuners and how much string is wound the tuning Post. With violent Dive-bombing there's a slight possibility of some string slippage if there are too many windings around the post and
2) As you mentioned a well cut and lubricated Nut.

Mostly true smile.gif However, Floyd systems offer fine tuning once locked. Two point systems use the main tuners instead. I"ve had better luck staying in tune with a floyd than with a two point system using locking tuners but to each his own. smile.gif

I think you can achieve the same results to a point either way but a Floyd system does it better with less fuss especially under extreme use. So in my eyes a Floyd system is superior and more reliable to stay in tune with relatively little hassle. You won't find many aggressive guitarists using an extreme trem technique on a 2 point system.

I'm just trying to think logically about my GAS for a guitar with a 'Floyd Rose' when I'm pretty sure my Tyler with Hipshot locking tuners and a decent 2 point Tremelo can do just as well. It doesn't help that Kris has just bought one of the Ibanez RG models I've been lusting after, and making it sound awesome.

They definitly have a feel and even sound difference to them. Floyd types's better range also (usually) means sensitivity in smaller movements.

There's a bit more range for your hand to rest, ibanez edge3 for example is really good at that (plus no need to cut the string ball-end)

Still can't say if one is any superior to the other, I just glad there are options out there smile.gif

In my opinion it depends on how you want to use it. If you just want to throw some vibrato on some chords and single notes or even some dive bombs on occasion then a 2 point system with some quality tuners and a well cut and lubricated nut and string tree is probably fine.
I am not familiar with the Tyler you mentioned but when I think of a 2 point trem , the first thing that comes to mind is what you find on a Strat.
They can be setup to work pretty well but have some limitations such as range as Mertay pointed out. You don't have much range at all if you want to uptrem or increase pitch. Also the string height adjustment set screws bug the heck out of me because they dig into my palm if they are sticking up.
If you are going to go aggressive and try to pull off some elephant or horse whinny type stuff or hold your axe up in front of you by the trem bar and shake the heck out of it, a Floyd or something comparable is more suited for that kind of abuse.

Forgotto mention, very personal but I think locking nuts that come with floyd type systems are superior to anything else out there. Seriously, if I bought a non-floyd guitar I'd modify the nut first.

-They are very easy to adjust height, which to me is almost everything when it comes to neck comfort.
-They're extremely durable, no lubricating etc. needed. Been using one for almost 20 years and probably will last for another 20. Can do various gaunges of strings...
-They lock smile.gif should perform better on extreme trem. use as the force is stable on headstock.
-I like their tone, not like brass and close to a fretted sound. They're heavy too compared to anything else and thats a + for tone atleast in theory...
